I was just browsing the Apple iPhone discussion forums at http://discussions.apple.com/thread....9463&tstart=30 and I noticed quite a lot of reports of reduced battery performance, intermittent wifi connections and hot batteries from customers who recently upgraded to the 1.1.1 firmware. It seems that Apple is replacing these unhacked phones with new ones without hassle. All this fuss makes me wonder even more what was really in the new firmware release...

Agree~~ there are so many reasons why people shouldn't upgrade to 1.1.1. they are trying to kill unlock and 3rd party so quick that they don't even have enough time to test the new firmware. and at the end, they are just killing their own iTunes WiFi store since most of the people are staying away from firmware 1.1.1. so many people especially other cellphone makers are laughing at Apple with this stupid move. and at the same time, they are happy with this move because Apple is making the iPhone a non-smartphone and closed platform (for now)

The battery life issue may be related to untested code in the new baseband firmware.

If this is true, Apple engineering has proved that if you are worried too much to fix the mess done by the business people, that conceived a stupid business model, you risk creating poorly developed and tested software.

I've owned several different types of phones and smartphones, and the iPhone aside from missing some important features is a winner design. But the business model sucks. At this time Apple could be at the top of the smartphone market with a "less than perfect" phone, but it's business model is taking them to the top of the bumbphone market

Yes, I agree too that they have a bad business model which is crippling the distribution of this otherwise unique product. I love my 1.02 iPhone, but there is no way I'm gonna update it to 1.1.1, which I think is designed primarily to brick modified phones and to just generate MORE revenue from the wireless iTunes store. One poster from the other forum said that an Apple technician told him that the reason the battery is depleted quicker than before is that the firmware increases the power to the wifi circuitry. Who knows? All I know is that this firmware does a lot more damage than good to all iPhone users.
