EDGE is 256kbps, that is to say it reaches speeds up to 32 kb/s.
I personally have an upload connection of just 12.5kb/s, but I can use Skype with audio AND video. The quality it's not that bad. If 12.5 kb/s are enough for video and audio, there shouldn't be big problems with EDGE. Youtube is slow because it uses a different encoding encoding with higher quality and fps. A TV application over EDGE is possible, it's just a matter of encoding and bitrate. |

Nonetheless, the best bet would be some sort of VLC client or something like that that allwos streaming video to be played. Sling player cant be ported because it is closed source and they dont release any sort of api for it...
EDIT: just saw this thread: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6595 I guess VLC can probably do the correct encoding, and it could therefore be streamed to the iphone. just a question of whipping up an interface to change channels, and enbed it in safari. Maybe Orb can do this tying up? dunno... Last edited by RVN84; 09-14-2007 at 08:47 PM. |

I'd vote for a Slingplayer port! I watch my Slingbox over T-Mobile's EDGE on my 8525 & Treo 750 and it works GREAT. It looks better tethered to my laptop, so it's definitely usable over EDGE.
