Try this!

It's even better: this method works without PDANet, i.e. without your iPhone heating up to 50 degrees. On your phone you only need OpenSSH, which you most likely already have.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
* on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
* on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).

Please find the new manual on how to implement OpenVPN for tethering over USB to reach the same level as PdaNet offers for wireless connection.
FULL Internet access without annoying DNS-resolver socks-proxy troubles.

How does the tunnel program send/receive data on the USB port? How does the app that the iPhone runs send/recevive data on its 30/pin->USB connection?

I ask because I need the source code to send/receive data via the iPhone's USB connection. I haven't seen a good example app or an API call to send/receive data from the port (for Jailbroken phones of course...).

I think iPhonebrowser works through the USB port, you could take a look at the source code: http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/source/browse/

Default no wifi or ssh

I'm having a heck of a problem connecting to wifi after the 2.0 update. Then after the 2.2 it made it impossilbe to connect. Now, I'm trying to SSH into my iphone through usb and no luck at all. I've tried 2 other iphones and only one worked perfectly through SSH. The other 2 iphones also had no trouble connecting through wifi. Please help. I've spent so much time on this. Thanks.

Make sure you have openSSH installed and running on that phone. And try a different USB port.
