Hi,
I had some important Bookmarks on my Mac's Safari, so I enabled Bookmark sync from iTunes. And now I have them on my iPhone so I again disabled Bookmarks Sync. But I have 2 folders in my Bookmarks on iPhone that were created and I cannot delete. They are: "Bookmarks Menu" and "Bookmarks Bar". How do I delete these folders ?

If so, SFTP with Cyberduck/Fugu into the iPhone, goto /Private/var/mobile/Library/Safari In there Open Bookmarks.plist with Property List editor (on the Mac from Develeoper Tools). Check the "childs" from "root" there. one is named "BookmarksBar", one "BookmarksMenu". Delete both childs, save and quit SFTP connection. Shuts down the iPhone then and restart it. "Bookmarks Menu" and "Bookmarks Bar" will be gone then, History and regular Bookmarks still there. Hope that hepls, volkspost

Root --Children --WebBookmark FileVersion --WebBookmark Type --WebBookmark UUI All four under "Root" at the same level and "Children" should be expandable and then look like this one Root --Children ----0 ----1 ----2 ----3 --WebBookmark FileVersion --WebBookmark Type --WebBookmark UUI Two of the Numbers represent BookmarksMenu and BookmarksBar, the numbers are expandable too. Give it a try. I tried that out the following way. I opened Mobile Safari went to a page and set a regular Bookmark. It will be represented by a new number under "Chrildren". hope that helps volkspost

On my first sync, I knew I was backing up my iPhone bookmarks to my Mac, but I didn't realize that the hundreds of bookmarks on my Mac were headed for my iPhone. So, now that I've deleted everything that I didn't want on my iPhone, I have the same problem: These two ridiculous folders are still there. A couple questions:
I'm getting ready to do a restore on my iPhone. Since these folders have already been backed up to the Mac, can I simply delete these folder entries from wherever they are on the Mac? If so, where do I look? Also, my first sync added a "Group Name" folder to my contacts, which also shouldn't be there. Where can I find (and delete) the Group Name entry? PS: volkspost, thank you for your previous posts here, this is a lifesaver. Getting rid of these folders will help chill my obsessive compulsive disorder.

Okay, I finally tried to do this, and ran into a problem: How do I get into the root directory on an iPhone that isn't jail-broken? I was able to access some local folders via FTP using the Picture Safe, Video Vault, and Video Safe apps, but none gave me access beyond their local folders. BTW, Picture Safe and Video Safe are excellent apps.
Alternatively, I found the Bookmarks.plist file on my Mac, made the necessary adjustments as volkspost described, and then synced. This cured the "BookmarksMenu and BookmarksBar" problem, but caused a new problem: it wiped out all of my iPhone's bookmarks. So it seems I need a method or an app for accessing any folder I want on the iPhone, so I can make the needed changes on the iPhone. Thanks Last edited by AARRGGHHH; 07-05-2009 at 11:59 AM.
