I think this post may have been prematurely promoted to sticky. There still seems to be a lot of confusion about exactly what these commands do.

This is also a bad idea to run on a phone with apps installed. No updates or uninstalls. Apparently that's what the caches are for.

EDIT: No, I lied, I need to pay more attention. Once you quit Terminal or whatever you use for SSH, your Installer apps and sources will be fine. This is a good thing. Lesson of the night: read and follow all directions.

Don't worry, i experimented and solved this issue on my iTouch and when it was 100% sure, i did it on my phone.

You don't want to know how many times i pwned/restored it to make sure it was not a coincidence.

My Installer.app is set to root:wheel and i still get this message and can't install some programs, any idea?

I did, here's my result..
The "Insufficient Permissions" still apears, as does the Mainscript executation error.

Okay... I guess I'll just wait for this to settles. Is it okay if I use Terminal.app on my phone to run the commands? I think I did move the folders Fonts and Ringtones.
I've had trouble using Terminal before to change permissions (I was trying the Safari cookies fix) Th eonly way I got it working was using MobileFinder.
Is there a way to do this using Finder?

Yes you can, Check my first post, i've updated the method as i have found that sometimes the permissions are not set correctly for Installer binary. Fixed now.

hi.

i am getting the same error here. installer has been working fine till yesterday when it started to display the root wheel stuff. i've used the comands XianLi posted but all i does is open the installer and display the same box with the error.

i can't install nor uninstall stuff.

can anyone post the comands to check permisions using terminal please so i can check permissions.

mmm.. whenever I try to type the commands, Terminal acts real weird. it chops up part of it.
I can't execute it. I can't backspace to delete mistakes...
is it related to the command or terminal.app in general?
