Default [Language] Change it on your iPhone

By editing Localizable.strings, you can change the display language of your iPhone.

In this example, I edit the file "/Applications/Maps.app/English.lproj/Localizable.strings" to display Traditional Chinese.

Please note that just edit the <string>xxxxxx</string> parts, leave the <key>xxxxx</key> part unchanged.

By modifying /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/LocalizedApplicationNames.strings:

For windows user, the *.strings files are binary format of Property list.
You may download a text format of original LocalizedApplicationNames.strings from here and the one I modified from here

The conversion tool I am using is http://homer.informatics.indiana.edu...il/plutil.cgi/. And here is a much more easier web page for the conversion. iPhone recognizes both binary and text/ascii format of Property list, you don't need to convert it back to binary.

This might not be the right way for localization. Maybe we should create a new folder uder /Applications/Maps.app/, and name it as TradChinese.lproj. Put necessary files in there. And choose the right localization at some other place.

If you have not modified your iPhone yet, please refert to exNavy's tutorials first. http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone_...n_windows.html

Thumbs up

Hi Glen.tw~

That's cool job and nice to meet you here, actually I am working on the same stuff here. :p

Here is my work about 2 days ago. And I was thinking to put the new zh_tw.lproj into it, there might be a way to change the language setting of app.
I will make a test and post later here.

Haven't got a chance to edit these files under Windows. I did it under OS X.

Just change these *.strings into *.plist, so you can open it wit Property List Editor without and issues or conversion. Then change it back to *.strings before you put it back.

Hi Jerry,
