i was told if i jailbroke my phone, and unlock it via turbosim...and not use any of the data or internet (my dad already blocked the internet like 5 months, which was months before i got my iphone), that i will not get billed as a iphone user with the iphone data plan...however...i just checked my account and i am.
what is up with this? i know several ppl who have a regular family plan with the iphone 3g and are NOT paying for the iphone plan...and just getting billed as a regular phone user on the family plan.... why am i getting billed when all outgoing and incoming internet traffic is blocked? i only use my iphone to text, call and use wi-fi which is free. |

Not exactly sure of the tariffs or operating models in your part of the world, but a provider does not need your phone to have internet access to know what type of handset you are using. As part of the base transmission included is the IMEI number, which determines via the HLR (home location register) what tariff you are on, bills you and checks if your handset/sim is blacklisted by cross referencing your IMEI number against the blacklist.
If your provider is using the IMEI as a trigger, then you may automatically get put onto the iphone tariff depending on the in-country provider policies, simply by making a call. |
