I have a jailbroken 2.2.1 2.30.03 iphone. Yes, I'm yet another dumb one who accidently updated.
I was using the Gevey Turbo Sim on T-mobile before I updated and it worked great. After I updated, I purchased the Gevey Plus 2. Like many others, having lots of trouble with it. I'm using it with a T-mobile sim (USA) and occasionally it will work, but the logo next to the signal bar shows AT&T. It loses signal every few hours and I can't get Edge to work with it (even after turning off 3G, turning data roam on, etc.). It usually shows no sim, no service, it then finds a full signal with edge but no carrier name, then it starts all over again. Any suggestions? I was curious if I re-jailbrake my phone if that will help. Man I miss my phone... |

If you have an early production 3G phone you may be lucky enough to have a version 5.8 bootloader. If you do, there's a way to downgrade the baseband back to 2.28 and unlock the phone with Yellowsn0w.
If your bootloader version is 5.9 or 6.02 then you are out of luck like many of us here, and will have to choose one of the "turbo sim cards" until a software unlock is available. Search the forum for how to check your boot loader version and the downgrade procedure. Good luck! |

I've already looked into my bootloader, unfortunately I have 5.9.
I've been trying to use a "turbo sim" without much luck. Was curious for those people who have been able to make them work, how you did? Does it help to re-jailbrake the phone with the turbo sim + my tmobile sim in the phone while jailbreaking? |

I can't help you much there. I got the IPhone 3G for my wife with the 2.30.03 baseband. The store I bought it from sold it with a Rebel simcard and a promise to do the software unlock when it comes out (that was back in early March before the 3.0 firmware announcement when everyone was expecting iphone-dev team to come out with an updated Yell0wsnow version any day). The phone is jailbroken to install language support (and also downgraded to the 2.2 firmware).
I have to say that all in all the rebel works decently. Not perfect, and every so often (maybe once a week, sometimes even two weeks) it will lose reception and then revert to "no sim" or "invalid sim". However, rebooting it 3 or 4 times has so far brought it right back. Of course 3G has to be off with data roaming on (2G data working fine), but with a limited (30 Mb) data plan that's not a real issue for me. I'm not sure how exactly the Rebel was installed and configured. I actually never opened the sim drawer to avoid breaking anything. As I said, so far I didn't need to. Although this is by no means a perfect solution, it's not so bad as to render the IPhone useless. Just a little hassle. Good luck, Last edited by bfritsch; 04-23-2009 at 12:29 PM. |

hello,
i was reading your post and wanted to give my information. i first tried using the rebel sim card and it only worked for me for 1-2 days, even after resetting as the instructions suggested. i then came across the turbo 2.2 sim (the black one). I have been using it for 2-3 months and have only had to reset it once. i also accidently updated to 2.30 bb and had to jailbroke my iphone. i'm currently using firmware 2.2.1_5h11 with 2.30 baseband. i successfully jailbroke my phone and had to use the turbo sim with my tmobile sim. it's been working for me. the information is SK INTERNATIONAL INC, Hard to find laptop parts - power suppliers, batteries, Delaware (USA). i'm currently using the "black" turbo sim as the "gold" rebel sim did not work for me. hope this helps. |

If you are looking for a reliable turbo sim, then look into the product I sell. I sell on eBay and elsewhere but I have sold my chips to many friendly Hackint0sh members for reduced rates. Kindest regards, KLP |

I'm currently using our friend here's "i-smartphone turbosim", the first one I received worked for a day then went completely dead. I'm now on my second one and I can't get GPRS/2G internet to work. I'm happy at the moment given that I can actually use the call and SMS functions but we'll see how long it works out for.

I'm tempted to the try the black one krb_1971 said worked for him. I was visiting my parents when I tried the gevey and it didn't work. When I came back home I decided to try it again, and surprisingly it's been doing fine for the past few days.
krb_1971: I'm curious if you lose signal at all, particularly when switching towers or roaming. Also, weird random thing. I have a T-mobile sim in, but the carrier next to the signal bars says ATT. I'm roaming on ATT, but my old gevey always showed T-mobile. Anyone able to explain this? |

i have yet to experience any signal lose except that one time and that's been about 1 1/2 - 2 months ago. When i put in the black turbo sim with my tmobile sim...it automatically showed "tmobile" and not att.
