I only ask because when I upgraded to 2.1 and used quickpwn(which doesnt activate the phone) it wouldnt let me access the springboard. It told me to plug into iTunes and gave me the option to make emergency calls only. I then had to create a custom firmware to activate and jailbreak the phone before I was able to use it. Again, this might be something that is due to my modem firmware being 02.11.07, but its something I would look into before people buying it are peeved that its not working as advertised...
then again, maybe its the wording, it says all you have to do is activate your phone via itunes then plug in the virgin sim... a little misleading because I believe in order to activate it through iTunes you either have to be an AT&T customer or use pwnage tool(though i could be wrong)...AFAIK, which might confuse some noobs when they buy a 3G and try to use it for the first time.
technically you do not need to jailbreak it. You have someone with an ATT sim stick it into your phone and it will activate it. Then you just stick in your sim + virgin and it will work, but you have to turn on airplane mode or take out the sim if you want to sync with itunes later on.

Just wanted to update on Virgin Test Result.

I have the high speed version.

I'm currently in Cambodia for vacation. Here's my test result.

Country: Cambodia
Carrier: qb
3G Calls in/out: Yes
3G SMS in/out: Yes
3G Data: YES!!! 180kbps!!

Note: qb is a 3G (UMTS) ONLY network.

BTW, I tried a card that is HSDPA, it did not detect at all. It just says NO SIM.
iPhone 3G support 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100

UMTS is a 3G standard, HSDPA is the data speed.

I think we still have to do some work in the compatiblity of our High Speed VirginSim, it would in in sim cards but not all.

Try the Normal Speed VirginSim,it will work for HSDPA as well .

Thank you for your support. Yes, you do not need to jailbreak your iPhone 3G to use our VirginSim, we tested it on many iPhone 3G already. You do not need to be an AT&T customer, & I do not encourage people to use pwnage tool for just using our VirginSim. Keep your iPhone & sim card as "virgin" as possible.

At the beginning, I am also afraid that I shall be asked a lot of information during activation.

To activated your iPhone by iTunes, you must first insert a sim card (AT & T sim card or may be any other sim card)into your iPhone, connect your iPhone to the computer & iTunes will ask you to activated it. The activation will not ask you to input any data, it is only a press of the activation button .I think Apple use this activation step to work out some sales data like how many iPhone has been activated (sold), how fast & how many stock left etc. Also, when you activate iPhone, Apple will know where are the iPhone most likely ended-up.

We have activated over 2,000 pcs iPhone 3G for the iPhone wholesalers in China in the way I descripted above. We are 100% sure about this activation.

Since you have jailbreak your iPhone, may be you can do us a favour, please try to syn. with iTunes even with VirginSim & non-AT & T sim card.I was told that you can syn. with iTunes if your iPhone jailbreak-ed. I have not try it. Please try syn. your iPhone & report your results here.

BTW I have asked our reseller to stop giving out the High Speed VirginSim free samples in his coming ebay listing. I think it will be more responsible to sell those already well tested Normal Speed VirginSim, even the High Speed VirginSim is given out free. Thanks for your advice.

I have a question: does the VirginSim affect so much the battery life as the TurboSIM does? my iPhone lasts about a day and a half with the GPS turned off, without WiFi and without 3G as well. I am interested in other SIM solutions... Thanks in advance.

I dont notice any additional battery drain. But Ive never owned a TurboSim so I have no basis of comparison
