The black ones have a manufacturing flaw, not a design flaw. The chip is not sodderred properly. The design is very good. There is little they can improve. I suggested metal on all sides. The software is the issue. It would probably be cheaper and less confusing if he sent programmers and software updates than new adapters evey time unless sending adapters is cheaper than a cheap pkey programmer.
I want airplane mode fix. No use for STK in USA on tmobile prepaid. I want to sync with itunes without jail breaking nor having to restart the phone. Jailbreaking reminds me too much Linux. Low quality. A lot of errors and poor design. You spend more time trying to get stuff to work than actually using the phone. That's no fault of iPhone dev team. Their programs are awesome. I blame it on cydia and the rest. Last edited by SpookyET; 10-06-2008 at 06:00 AM. |

You can just jailbreak and never install anything but openssh, send over the new lockdownd, and then uninstall openssh. You will notice nothing different compared to a nonjailbroken phone (other than the cydia icon). Don't diss things that you have not tried recently or have read "horror" stories of jailbreaking. It's all a load of BS - those are the same people who say vista is unstable. I have had no problems with cydia; I've been jailbreaking since 1.02 and have never regretted it. I would just quickpwn so you dont lose anything, open up cydia, install openssh, ssh over the lockdownd, uninstall openssh, and never have to worry about if a fix for airplane mode will ever come out. I haven't been on an airplane recently, so in the year that I've had the iPhone, Ive never used airplane mode.

I know what's involved with jailbreaking. I haven't got it wrong. I know what all that means. I just don't care for it until it reaches apple-style quality and usability.
The airplane mode is useful for synching with iTunes. You bypass the SIM check. |

Cydia seems pretty "apple-style quality and usability" to me, you open it up, you search for what you want, you tap it, you hit install, done. And don't mention about apple's quality as being perfect, its far from that by any means (not to mention a series of apple bugs and flaws that jailbreaking allowed to fix) I believe you are wasting more of your time rebooting after each time you want to sync, but hey, its your time and I won't argue with you anymore. You just bring up invalid and false points to why jailbreaking is so bad.

I read 'some' threads here... what i gather so far:
Good/working adapters: 1. Universal sim 2. Virgin sim 3. iphone-sim-unlock.com Which one, by consensus, is the best or most reliable? Where can I find the 'uncut' version of Universal sim, v550? Does it work as well as the uncut version? I can find only the 'uncut' version on ebay... Where can I find Virgin sim? iphone-sim-unlock is kinda pricy... not sure its worth $50 since I will only need the unlock for about 3 weeks when I travel abroad next month.... Oh, is it safer to tape these babies to the sim card or not?? Which way will prevent it from getting the sim tray stuck? Thanks, u experts

SpookET,
Jailbreaking allows you the option to not install Cydia and Installer. Just pure jailbreak. You can't even know the difference between, jailed and jailbroken. Also, you said you have a problme syncing, I don't seem to have problems at all, syncing with a jailbroken phone. I uncheck Cydia and Installer, as I dont' see any good apps so far. BTW, i use Pwnage tool on mac, make custom firmware WITHOUT cydia and installer, then just restore my phone to that. It is apple like. Being able to restore a custom firmware on itunes is close enough for me. |

the fedex no. of reznor9 is 8658 1382 4824, SpookyET is 8658 1382 4846 and ranova is 8658 1382 4835 The reasons for sending samples again is our last samples seemed giving non-consistent results due to QC in manufacturing, although the unlocking results are quite good. I have started a new thread with subject: Virginsim will be a good solution? for all testers who are testing the Virginsim to gather their results there. Pls. post your results in the new thread so others forum users can following your test results easier. ( I am risking my thread being deleted by Zf_) P.S. Known issue: A reboot is needed after Flight mode swith on & then off again , because we are keeping the STK menu for some country. We shall provide an alternative to handle "Flight Mode" Last edited by virgin-sim; 10-06-2008 at 03:17 PM. |

Like I said, PwnageTool and Quickpwn are very well designed. Cydia and the rest remind me too much of Linux. Cydia is just an interface to apt. It does more than just being an installer. It's got tutorials and other rubbish. I got a lot of URL errors. A lot of the apps are terrible and crash. Running services, like openssh in the background will slow your iphone down. I haven't played a lot with installer since it has a limited collection. To sum it up, like you, I don't care much for any of the software provided by the jailbreak community. I haven't seen one app worthy of my time. It just reminds me way too much of Linux, and I moved from Linux to a Mac to stop trying to get stuff to work and actually use my device. I know Linux. I've used Arch Linux for months, which is basically the equivalent of a compiled Gentoo. Upon installation, you get a package manager and a command line. You build your own OS. You configure it as well.
I have not tried PwnageTool, but Quickpwn will not sync with iTunes without manually replacing the Lockdown folder. |
