Just a reminder to other testers, the Virgin Sim with a red line on top of the IC is our new "high speed" (Fast speed Version) software design, the one with black line is our "normal Speed" . The fast version has a faster network search speed as compare with other existing *sim.

Known issue: we need to power off & on again the iPhone to get signal again if it has been switched to flight mode. We can bypass this issue, but we shall lost the STK menu which is used by some operators.

We shall consider all the feedbacks & improve the functions on our Virgin Sim.
First off here is all the info on my 3G
white 16g 3G iPhone
firmware 2.1 (this firmware was pwnaged**activated/jailbroken)
modem firmware 02.08.01
3G OFF
data roaming ON
sim card is for the US T-Mobile network.

Bad News: I recieved 2 of your red marked," high speed virgin sims," and both of the high speed virgin sims do not work.. I spent an hour or more just now trying to get the high speed virgin-sims working. I cleaned the contacts on my sim card and also the contacts on the virgin sim as well. I tried shifting the alignment of the cards and rebooting each time, about 50 times or more. Each and every time I get the message "No SIM card installed." I suppose it could be a manufacturing error as other people on the board have had success with the high speed virgin-sim... I only wish I had another 3G to try this on to see if this is an isolated inncident, with my iPhone at fault or if it is in fact a faulty set of virgin sims.

Good News: I also recieved one black marked "regular speed virgin sim," and although it would not fit without a small amount of sanding down of the IC chip, it works perfectly so far. With this card it doesnt matter if I shut the phone down prior to installation or if I plug it in while the phone is already on, the network picks up within about 30 seconds. With 3G off and roaming on, my EDGE data is working as well. I have tested calls in and out, sending and recieving sms messages, GPS and wifi... everything works as it should. 12 hours so far and counting. So far is feels more solid than the universal sim I was using, which although wasnt a horrible experience it had daily signal loss, dropped calls and really sketchy EDGE coverage which at times was really hard to get back.

Thank you, I am really enjoying testing out these virgin-sims and will continue to report back to you on my experience with the normal speed virgin sim, but Im really not sure what else I can try with the high speed cards. I hate to for them to be a total failure, but Im clueless. Anything you can suggest?

reznor9, the samples I received from him all seem to work with Tmobile USA

The only difference is that my modem fw is 01.45.00, that might be the reason. It literally finds signal before the phone is even booted up.

3G off, roaming on.

I will write a review in about a week when Ive tested it with changing towers and such

I have been on virgin sim for 3 days. I have been sending reports to him by email since the forum kept going down. If anyone cares, I can post them here.

Thanks for your update, you are a very good tester & has given me a lot of useful information for us to improve our Virgin Sim. We have noticed that the high speed card is not getting signal for some T- mobile sim cards, we believe that your T-mobile card is the new sim card, possible issued after 2008 August. Is that right? If it is, then the solution has been made . We need to update our software so that Virginsim can be compatible with it. The solution is ready already, just finished our 3 days field test in China .

Do you have flight mode problem ( that is after swithching to flight mode, you need to power on again to get signal ) in the Normal speed?

I think you are right. My cut, sanded, and abused SIM card is 2 years old. The brand new one I have tried is from September, and it did not work.

Cool

Hi every1. I Have my iPhone 3G since about a month bought in the US. I am going to Europe soon so I had to Unlock my iPhone 3G in order to use it there. I bought a Gevey 3G Sim Adapter, used it on my iPhone about 4 days ago (Im not trying to advertise here) and so far I can make and receive SMS and Calls which was basically my personal primary goal (WiFi I can use at home). I am now logged onto a T-Mobile Network in the U.S. and it works just fine. Can I expect this thing to stop working or does anyone else have experience with this card? It seems fine to me if you just want to make calls and send SMS...
Also, can anyone please be more specific with this IMSI illegal issue? I don't want to be put in jail so can anyone here report any problems with that (i.e. did you get warnings, did you get in trouble with the cops, or is one of your friends already in jail ) Thanks for your help!:iphone::iphone:

It should still work. They work in most popular countries. As for the illegality issue, the FCC care about interference. They have devices that detect interference in major areas. If a device is detected, you'll find feds at your door. I don't think they care about the IMSI; otherwise, you would have heard something by now. I think they let it to the discretion of the carriers, and since the carriers are greedy bastards, they don't care as long as you pay them. If you call T-Mobile, they'll actually tell you how to unlock your iPhone.

As far as I understand, there are no unlock codes for iPhones. A carrier who owned that phone is allowed to unlock it. I don't know if they are allowed to unlock other carrier's phones. They send the IMEI to apple. 24 hours later when you sync with iTunes, your baseband will be changed to allow any SIM.

My tmobile sim is several years old (probably 3 or so years old) - works fine with the high speed one. Good thing you found this out, I was going to go get a replacement sim since the one I have is all cut up.

Do you know any possible problems with using the high speed virgin sim?

No problem. I enjoy helping to find a solution to the 3G unlock. Anything I can do. As for my sim card, it not brand new but is remotely new... When I purchased my 2G iPhone back in November of last year I was having problems with my old sim and my voicemail alerts. I had to purchase a new 64bit tmobile sim card to fix that. So my sim is almost a year old but I believe it is still among the most current version tmobile has. My mother has an older tmobile sim card.. probably over 2 years old, Ill test it with hers and see if it works.

As for the airplane mode problem, yes. If I enter airplane mode and then disable it my phone will not regain signal. It will show tmobile as the carrier but will get zero bars. A reboot is required. This is with the normal speed virgin-sim.

26 hours. Everything still working

Does this mean I can go to Vodafone (ger) or so to unlock my iPhone 3G and it's legal? Or works it only with tmobile (tmobile is in germany the only iphone reseller - but vodafone offers a special contract for the iphone 3G^^)? I wonder how much it would cost...
