Thumbs down Universal SIM

Taken from the Universal SIM "success stories"-thread:

Quote:
Tanks,Tested Vodafone and Optimus PT

ATR:Use Dummy ATR
Simcard type:SIM
Speed:Use standard baudrate (~10k)

Reading settings from Universal-SIM...
ATR = DUMMY
SIMCARD = SIM
SPEED = 0xFF
SKIP = OFF
IMSI = CUSTOM
TRIGGER: 6F45
UNLOCK = DIRECT
IMSI: 001011121324354
IMSI Fake:0000000000000000
Card log is empty!
IMSI 00101..... This is Test-IMSI mode

But i can not resist to tell you, there is sim solution (not in market, yet).
I have ready universal sim new update for this.
And is not based on IMSI, so i assume there is no more illegal involved here.
Not based on IMSI, I see...

So we are just where we were, before this short episode of Universal SIM cheating skills...

I wish I was wrong about this but my optimism is very limited

no doubt ,it's unreliable but losing signal once or maybe twice a week is not to bad ,just make sure you have your old cellphone with you or close to you ,it comes in handy to regain signal from your sim.
I received my iSmartPhone on August 4th and it worked up until today when I went into a movie theater and lost signal. It would not connect anymore or find any service. I put the sim back into my old iPhone, read this post from mytran80, and put back sim into the 3g; and yes it works.

I can see why it would work, but I think I might hold off and stick with the 2g iPhone for now until a more stable method is found due to the legalities of it and how hard it is to take out the sim tray with this crap in it.

Summary from my point of view:

RebelSim:
We require more information on this! Anybody?

StealthSim:
I am currently testing. So far working for 12 hours. Deco do you need a baseband state dump?

Universalsim/ (user Manole):
They mention new software/method is ready. I cannot confirm due to currently testing StealthSim. Mattmartincouk have you tried the new Universalsim method???

Yessim/ Furiousim:
They mention new software is coming. I cannot confirm until perhaps a few weeks time because I am travelling to Asia.

TurboSim:
No news, unsure about this.

I have experienced this with Yessim when I went into a tunnel (under the London Thames river)... When I came out signal was gone.

I would have attempted to re-acquire the signal using the method you mention, however due to the thin, sticky nature of the SIM solution it was hard fiddling with it. Note to Yessim Support, as mentioned, no worries, I am testing StealthSim at the moment and will get back to Yessim if and when I am able to.

As a note, StealthSim kinda works with just some simple sticky tape and appears a little more "slick". However, again, not an endorsement, just mentioning my current testing. :hack:

As user "manole" mentions the samples he sent were not yet ready for the full iPhone 3G solution. When trying those samples I had "no SIM detected" kind of messages.

Manole is prepared to provide me his new method for iPhone 3G solution. As I am testing StealthSim at the moment and don't have proper access to a PC to programme the SIM, I can't yet begin on this "new method".

Mattmartincouk are you able to test this new method for Universal SIM?

Nvidia,

I have a log from stealthsim and I have a furiousim with me.. you should not be using those in my opinion. Or any other solution until the manufacturer shows us that the phone has the correct IMSI/ICCID/MSISDN.

Have fun!

Thanks for the advice. I know what you are saying...

Luckily I am leaving the country (UK) in six days.

LOL if you never hear from me again maybe I got sent to Guantanamo.
iPhone hacking = terrorism

Wish me luck. :hack:

@nvidia2008
@mattmartincouk

Here is the update for universal sim cards you got from me.
More details you can find at web page www.universal-sim.org

Universal-SIM iPhone 3G V500 ( latest version )

Download link: http://www.universal-sim.org/wp-cont...0_iphone3g.zip

The settings are:

1. Use Dummy ATR / SIM / Standard baudrate
2. You can also try: Use card ATR / SIM / Use card default baudrate

Before you insert Universal-SIM into phone:

1. check again if 3G is enabled Settings -> General -> Network -> Enable 3G
2. check Data Roaming is enabled Settings -> General -> Network -> Data Roaming
3. make the appropriate APN settings in Setting -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network ( check this for reference - http://www.universal-sim.org/?page_id=82 )

Known issues:

1. You cannot change the pincode ( please disable pincode before using )
2. You cannot change network ( so the phone is always on AUTOMATIC )
3. You need to reboot the phone after entering AIRPLANE MODE ( or just reinsert the simcard )

The IMSI showed there is not used!

If you have used Universal-SIM in the past you know that
IMSI Fake:0000000000000000 means how many times Universal-SIM provides the FAKE IMSI to the phone.

For OLD iPhone 2G this IMSI Fake is : 0100000000000000
So only the second IMSI is FAKE.

For the new iPhone 3G you can see FAKE IMSI is :0000000000000000 ...
so there is no fake IMSI involved there.

Universal-SIM is the only sim at the moment that uses a new method to fool the iPhone. After few seconds from card insertion it asks the baseband to REBOOT itself.

This time the baseband software SKIPS the lock checking and all is right.
I trust people that know how to test to look at the baseband logs and see that phone registration on the network and other operations are done using ORIGINAL SIMCARD IMSI.

You can easily download older version of Universal-SIM Update & Configuration software to check the role of FAKE IMSI if you are still not convinced.
