It's simple.
Open two screws at the bottom, then use a suction cup to pull up the LCD.
No damage to the at all. Not even a scratch.
You can search for a video on Youtube.

You need to tape Universal sim and your sim together. If you can't put it in, you are doing it wrong.
You misunderstood me. The tray was 75% out and stuck because I was trying to insert it backwards. That's why the Universal Sim was bending. I went to the apple store and the dude broke it trying to take it out and they gave me new phone. Stupid moment of the day.

I don't know wtf is wrong wit this universal sim. I can't get it in. I'm not going to force it. It keeps bending. The iPhone 2G tray was filled in. This has a big hole. The only thing I can think of is to straighten it and glue the damn universal sim to the sim card. then try to stick it in. It keeps bending. Now, it's not straight any more. It won't go in.

Super glue didn't work. That piece of crap dried and didn't stick. Now I have to sand it. I'll look into touble tape, but that is pretty thick. I understand 0.75mm, but why can't it be hard? In the youtube video, it slides easily. I can't slide it in because it bends.

I'm back testing Universal SIM v. 550 with my Swisscom iPhone here in Germany.

Carrier: Simyo (E-Plus)
iPhone: 3G 16GB FW: original 2.1

Testing since: 22. September 2008

Calls In/Out: passed
SMS In/Out: passed
GPRS Data: pass
3G Data: pass
GPS: pass

Put it this way - on using the iPhone normally - i didn't detect any strange behavior.

Is it still a MUST cutting and sanding down the SIM with the latest version of U-Sim? Would you please post back within a couple of days... 22/09 is not that long ago...

Using universal-sim 5.5.0 since Sep 11, no problems so far (had to restart once)

If you haven't already, sand your sim card down.

I had to cut a hole into the Simyo-SIM. I ordered a SIM-Card-Puncher which does this job exactly.

I don't have any problems with the thickness of SIM + Universal-SIM.

I have sanded it down around the big hole I cut to insert the chip.
My issue is the bending of the damn thing when I insert it. I've bought some double sided tape, which sucks since it adds more thickness. I will sand it down.

I'm not understanding. You say the universal-sim bends when you insert it? How can that be if the order it goes is tray->universal-sim->sim card. The universal sim totally fits behind the sim card, leaving none of it exposed to get bent. For me, I sanded my sim card down, and put tray->universal-sim->sim card-> Scotch tape on top of sim card, and is used as a tab.
