I must say we are getting somewhere now... Good stuff everyone. To be on the trusted tester list, this will be up to Zf_ on how he wants to administer it. Lost Soul, maybe try sending a PM to him?
In any case, keep the reports coming in. Keep up the quality of the reporting, I think we are now getting to reasonably informative reports, unlike the "this is work yay PM me now to buy yes" posts that were here several weeks back. In the meantime, Dev Team, keep up all the good work. I updated to 2.0.2 because all the non-phone features are so useful for me, I'll risk the baseband firmware update. And apps. And StealthSIM when I need to pull a basic signal (I have been very conservative still, using Airplane mode some time of the day). Cheers. :hack: Last edited by nvidia2008; 08-28-2008 at 02:49 AM. |

Just a quick note for everyone who got Universal Sim.
The old version ( I don't know 500 or 403), it does work but AT+CIMI comes up with 00101. I test it and took the sim out right away when I saw 00101 on Putty. So make sure to update; otherwise, you will get no service or get ban from the Network. As couple people got no service after 15 mins with t-mobile. Make sure you update to the newest version (540). The new version will give you a corrected MCC and MNC with AT+CIMI. I haven't take a look at the baseband dump yet. With 540 version: (used about 5 hours, work great) Call In/Out: work (drove 30 miles) SMS In/Out: work EDGE: Work 3G: test later GPS: work well The nice thing about Universal Sim is the new version is very thin. One thing I could recommend is that the top edge of the chip needs to make as an angle down. That way, the sim won't stuck for sure. Also, we could see the Cellular Network Setting. One drawback is that there is No Network selection as the old version. Also Data Roaming needs to be turn on for EDGE to work. +++ An update on t-zone, t-mobile network has some problem at certain cities so that t-zone hacked might not working at the moment. With Tornado sim, my sim tray did get stuck. Actually, the chip on the Tornado sim got stuck.
I did sand the chip and my sim card and taped them, but it didn't help. I had to broke the sim tray cap to pull out the sim. Now I have a sim tray with no cap. I can look inside, lolz. I ordered couple sim tray by the way. $11 each, it's not cheap! Anyway, with a no cap sim tray, I could pull any sim out now. So far, Tornado sim and Universal are working well. They both show corrected MCC+MCN with AT+CIMI in minicom. |

I had a bit of an issue with the tray as well. I did sand my Sim down and used 3M double-sided tape to attach the tornadosim. Then I made the tape tab by placing a piece of tape onto my sim that sticks out of my iPhone when the tray is inserted. So when I use the eject tool to get the tray to start to come out, I pull the tape-tab and the whole tray comes out.
Deco noted that my BB dump revealed a 001010..., but I'll keep it on a bit longer, just to see what happens. For the record, I'm running 2.0.1, 01.45.00. @unlock: will the new, thinner TSim work the same as the current one or will there be software upgrade? |

Tornado sim does show 00101 in the baseband dump.
But if it show a corrected one in minicom, I think we should be alright. Make sure when you guys insert a new testing sim, you need to open minicom and check it with AT+CIMI. If it shows up as 00101, don't use it. For Universal Sim, update to the newest version (540). |

I've been reading this thread for almost a week now, and really appreciate all the input everybody has shared so far.
I'm wondering if there is a better way for individuals to report their testing? Perhaps a standard excel sheet that people can either fill-in, or send reports in to be compiled? There is clearly some variation in experiences, even with the same SIM vendors, but I have a feeling that if the data is compiled we'll be able to see any trends much more easily. I'm happy to take a first stab at putting together a template if everybody thinks this would be of value. Thanks. kynddaze |
