Hi Mrhex,
I'm from Brazil too and I'd like to buy an Universal Sim. Where do you bought yours?
Which Sim card size are you using (32Kb, 64Kb, 128Kb)?
When using TIM, is GPS working? And is it possible to use it with 3G disabled?
Thanks a lot.

Ah interesting... It could be the GPS coverage in your area. In mainly within 15 miles of the centre of London, in Singapore city, and along the major highways on the Malaysian West coast, I can pick up GPS alright in these locations.

If you have an full legal unlocked phone (say borrow a friend's) *and* a locked phone how does the two compare, in terms of GPS?

I once had working GPS using the Universal Sim, but i think it's unimportand which *sim i used. It disapeared faster then i moved 10 meter to test it. I'm still into analyzing it, but that's very hard if you can't get an GPS connection...

It's not that there isn't GPS coverage here (i tested it on different places), it's just a issue of that one iPhone. The unlocked one doesn't seem to have such problems, connected once to GPS and it works (again, and again, and...) so. I think the problem lays somewhere in the way those *sims work together with aGPS (as that's what the iPhone is using)...

As I was playing around with the GPS on my car while driving, I can tell that the GPS can get signal from satellite without data (3G or EDGE). The blue dot is still there, it's just that there is no map showing.
So I think if you got data working, your GPS should be working unless you can't pick up any satellite. Did you try to drive around to get the signal from satellite?

Update on Tornado sim with T-mobile US:

Drove away my location 30 miles. Always got signal from T-mobile U.S. I did try to call while driving. It works great!
GPS working with T-mobile EDGE. It's just that map didn't show up fast enough. We do need 3G to use GPS so that the map could load faster. A built-in map would be nice.

So far:

Call in/out: Working
SMS in/out: Working
EDGE: Working.
3G: none to test yet, will test on Friday in Las Vegas.

AT+CIMI: 31026 which is t-mobile US
BB dump log: show with fake IMSI 00101

But it seems that it sends IMSI much more frequently

Default RebelSIM on M1 and Singtel

I am trying out RebelSIM on a US iphone AT&T locked in Singapore using M1 and Singtel SIM card. Note that Singtel sells unlocked IPHONE SIM FREE. I am not associated with RebelSIM as I paid the sim unlock myself. I am testing out of research interest as I own a Singtel SIM Free Iphone as well.

Result:
Singtel Prepaid Card: No service. Not able to login and not working out of the box.

M1: (Out of the box, without any programming, firmware v21)
2G Call:
Outgoing: Working
Incoming: Working
SMS: Working for both incoming and outgoing
Data on 2G with 3G mode turn off and data roaming on: Working

3G Call:
(Reboot with Enable 3G ON and data roaming ON)
Outgoing: Working (Not stable, depending on cell tower)
Incoming: Working (Not stable, depending on cell tower)
SMS: Outgoing is ok, incoming not able to receive

That's my findings. It is working from 15th Aug till 26th Aug where I receive not service signal on/off. I still can receive call, make call and send sms but no incoming sms. After recover my sim on a 3g normal phone, everything is working back to normal as the finding above. I am testing to see how long this can last.

Will be testing on roaming for Malaysia next week. Will update again.

For gods sake, i can't get this damned GPS to work, at home neither 100km away from here. My unlocked paperweight works fine, as does the navigationsystem in my car.

I tried to circle the error a bit, here are my thoughts:
- something withing the aGPS in combination with the data connection (maybe it's roaming wrong or so)
- the activation got borked (it got originally activated with rogers)
- something within the firmware

I know that the chip itself worked, as i once had a working connection.

Cool. Keep us updated. As I reported Singtel Hi! Prepaid SIM works at call/sms level so far with StealthSIM and my AT&T US locked iPhone 3G 16GB White. Roaming in Malaysia seems okay so far.

If you buy a prepaid SIM card in Malaysia (Hotlink/Xpax/Digi) let us know how it works in your phone.

Yes, the Singapore Singtel iPhone 3G is pretty good, full legal unlocked. I have one now. Soon to go on eBay UK. It is very very useful to have a full legal unlocked iPhone 3G. Someone else can have that joy while I test these unlock solutions.
