I only hope that Manole provides a better way to purchase Universal-SIM. I've trying in the past few days, but couldn't make it. I offered even to purchase a sample to test with 3 different brazilian carriers.

Install term-vt100 or ssh into your phone. Then you can run minicom.

IF you chose graphical only minicom will not show you need to go into settings and change to No Filter so you can see all the packages.

iPhone 3G 16GB - Activated via iTunes with AT&T card with legit contract (will be terminated in a couple weeks) - (i will also test it PWNED etc)

Firmware 2.0 - NOT PWNED or jailbreaked

SIM Hack - FuriouSim - Out of the Box, no fiddling with the USB reader/writer I ordered.

Calls In/Out - Working
SMS In/Out - Working
3G Data - Not available in Trinidad - Yet - Turning it on - No Service
Edge - ?? (I don't have EDGE activated on my account - will reactivate for testing)
Carrier - bmobile TSTT (Trinidad & Tobago)

As I don't sell these and was really testing it for my blog and local readers here in Trinidad. I would ideally prefer a software solution. I will review it thoroughly and if it gives any trouble i will be certain to point it out and be honest.

It's been about 8 Hours using the FuriouSim and honestly the signal has been as strong if not stronger than my first gen iPhone on 2.0 PWNED/Unlocked. we'll see how it goes.

I have another couple brands coming in and will test and post results of those too over time. Your not going t want a day by day update of course, but I'll post any changes.

I was in Bahrain for about 5 hours, picked up a roaming signal (original SIM is O2 UK). Did not test data because I did not want to pay ridiculous data roaming charges.

Now in Malaysia. Will update if and when I can. Dev Team seems to have the baseband firmly in its sights. So, we'll see...

I would have been able to help more, maybe, if there wasn't the shipping error with the wrong USB card reader sent to me...

But no worries. As you get more results from the tester, if Universal SIM really has a new, good method, then you will be ahead of all the other SIM solutions, yes..?

Anyways keep us updated and good luck. Singapore is launching iPhone 3G this Friday (22nd August)... Apparently it will be sold fully unlocked. If so, then in Malaysia the iPhone 3G will come (grey market) from Singapore, and it may be already unlocked.

I am however still exploring if SIM solution has any potential in the Malaysian market, now that I have left the UK.

I bought 10 pieces of Universal Sims on Ebay through a seller ondeon from HK. The layout of the auction designed with GSM-traders name on it.. All of the 10 pieces I got were printed "www.sim.bz" on it, instead of "Universal-Sim.com". I thought they are fake but the guy said that they are 100% real and I can ask the admin of universal-sim.com to confirm. (Which I havent)

The seller shipped to me 10 pieces of universal sims and said that he didnt not send me the Pkey card reader because they are already updated to the latest version which is V5.0

Here is the result:

All 10 sims did not work otb on T-Mobile USA. It will get signal the first time I put the card in, but if I go to some place that have weak or no T-Mobile signal (I never got service in my kitchen) it will loose network and display "No Service" forever. No matter how many time I turn on/off the phone, put it in airplan mode, turn on off 3G or Roaming... I tried it all, still it wouldnt get signal back (only solution is to do a full restore to get signal back up). At the beginning when it work, I can make call, and receive call, sms, but no EDGE. The EDGE icon didnt even appear. (Tmobile USA dont have 3G)

Now I will return all 10 pieces of universal sims and get my refund!

Btw, the seller name is Sebastian Bueckle (I googled him, and he seems like a very legit person, if all that is true, then universal-sim is not working on Tmobile USA)

I found 2 other cases with same problem on gsmhosting.com who also used universal sims in Tmobile USA..

PS: we should have someone in the USA to test these sims too. It looks like most of these sims are working in Asia and Europe, but not USA!
