I've been using StealthSIM SE with iPhone 3G for more than a month now, and I'm giving it up and got back to my iPhone 1rd generation.
Let me try to summarize my experience. Voice, Data, SMS, even 3G works, no problem with the three major brazilian operators (TIM, Vivo & Claro). But on all them I had constant "No Service" errors or "No SIM" errors. I had to reboot the iPhone 10 times a day to get the signal back. Some times I would only have voice service (no GPRS/EDGE/3G), usually a reboot would solve the problem. I tried to stick a duck tape on the StealthSIM SE + SIM card to see if it would help, it got a little bit more stable but didn't have much improvement. I also upgraded to, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and now 2.1, same problems, so I'm giving up and will wait for a software unlock sollution. My recommendation is to wait for the software unlock. Don't bother buying a SIM proxy that will need you to reboot your phone 10+ times a day or leave you with your sim tray stuck inside the iphone (I had to open my iphone once to get the sim out of the phone). My $0.02. |

One more thing, StealthSIM SE did not work with my original SIM card (an old 64k SIM from TIM), it had a different circuit layout from AT&T and Rogers and I always had a 'No SIM' error. After buying a new SIM card (128k) with a circuit layout similar to Rogers/AT&T I got it to recognize the SIM card, but ran into the stability problems I've just described.

Dam, I wish I'd found this forum before i splurged $20 for the black turbo sim.
I am a Fido user in Canada moving to the states and have a few questions if anyone could help me with. i tried searching couldnt find anything and they wouldnt let me start a new thread just yet. 1. If I bought the black i-smartphone Sim - do i just goto the states and plug it in my phone with a tmobile sim? Do i also need the original fido sim? 2. If apple releases a new FW i.e. 2.2 will my sim unlock stop working and can i update the i-smartphone adapter using the internet? 3. Right now I can't change my data settings/APN so how would i configure the new APN when I use t-mobile? 4. Is it necessary to jailbreak my phone to use the sim unlock adapter? 5. There are a lot of mixed reviews about the black i-smartphone sim, will 3g data work on this? is it reliabel? is there signal loss? 6, the best sim by the looks of it is universal sim v 5.50, does anyone know where I can buy this without getting faked, ebay has 100's of them all claiming to be real but there is no way of knowing. Does the universal sim need to be programmed or is it plug n play. Thank you to anyone who can answer any of these questions, sorry if this post is out of place but i didnt know where else to post this and oculdnt start a new thread. |

I had a bad experience with the universal sim. It constantly got jammed in the tray. I could never insert it properly, even with sanding, and a lot of cutting of the sim card. I had to open the phone to get it out.

2. You can update to 2.2 whenever without having to worry abou it, but i'd just keep it at 2.1 and wiat for the status change. 4. No it is not necessary to jailbreak just to use the sim unlock adaptor, the only thing you can't do is when you have the sim adaptor in it and not jailbroken, you can't sync to itunes, as it will say that the sim card you are using can not be activated. 5. I'm on the same shoe with you, but i ordered one. 6. Don't know. |

The virgin sim will hold up, but it will bend, and you'll have to press with pincers to get it straight again if you don't get those connectors lose. |
