Unhappy [Turbosim] turbo-info Communication Error

hi!

i tried to fit the turbosim and the at&t-sim as good as possible.

after typing turbo-info in winscp terminal i always get this error:

/bin$ turbo-info
initializing modem
AT+CPMS="SM","SM"
AT+CPMS="SM","SM"
ERROR
AT+CMGF=0
AT+CMGF=0
ERROR
AT+CPMS?
AT+CPMS?
ERROR
modem initiated
Mobile Phone/Serial Cable Communication Error

i īve already put the sim and turbosim into the iphone many times, perhaps anything fits not right? i only see "no sim" in the upper left corner of the springboard.

what can I do now?? any hints?? i do not know any further ... please help me in this case.

Thank you all!

from winscp open a putty session (CTRL + P) and start it from there, there should be no timeout, although it might take approx. 30 secs.

finally i got it!!!!!! my iphone works with turbosim

i just tried to fit the turbosim as good as possible on the at&t sim!!!

my tip for everybody with the same problem:

you can check if your turbosim is on its correct place (when "commcenter" is enabled!):

take out the original sim - "no sim" should pop up
now put the (not yet programmed) turbosim on the at&t-sim and insert the whole slot back into the phone

now "no sim" should swap to "...."

may the force be with you!! good luck!!

-b57600 simply uses a lower baudrate for the actual request, -v is verbose.

Therefore turbo-info -b57600 -v and turbo-info is basically the same, although the latter seems to work only as long as the turbosim is not programmed. It looks like there is a timing issue once the card is programmed and somehow accessed.

Consequently, you have to use -b57600 also for the programming with turbo-app.

Doublecheck the fitting of the SIM card, for my first one, I had to rework several times until it fit correctly and the turbosim covered the SIM card completely. Check also whether the solder resist has not been removed by accident once inserting it into the phone. At the very beginning, the card slot is really tight and may damage the solder resist which may result in a shortcut. Using some thin tape to cover the traces (not the pads) once again should do the trick, if this is applicable in your case.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I just used the baud and verbose parameter to put AppleSaft on. Takes forever, but seems to work ok:
Code:
# ./turbo-app -b57600 -v ./applesaft.trb
SRC ./applesaft.trb

OK. No Error
But the iPhone still complains "No SIM card installed"
and without the iPhone talking to the SIM, having AppleSaft on the TS is pointless....
Frustrating. I must have repositioned the chip a hundred times already,
and yes, it does cover the SIM completely. I also tried shifting it a bit left/right/up/down. Nothing.
The solder resist doesn't look damaged either.

Is this really just a contact problem? I tried two TS, they show the same behavior.
Also tried with two diff iPhones - all the same. No SIM, No SIM, No SIM ...

So after the programming, did you try the turbosim in another phone ? Put it in another phone with the AT&T card and set the values in the SIM toolkit menu, then try the turbosim together with your regular card in the iphone. But be aware that the applesaft application failed to set the values a second time when I tried this, I didn't get an error but the values were not updated. So, if you set the values by accident with the regular SIM card inserted, it doesn't seem to work to switch only to the AT&T card and set the values again.

Therefore I recommend to reset the card with the TPIN, programm the card (if possible even on the other phone, e.g. a Nokia 6230 via BT), set the values on the other phone and then try in the iphone.

Sawyer is on a distinguished road

when you test if your sim fits with the turbosim:

did you make sure that your "commcenter" is enabled?

which "how to" did you use?
