nitoTV and Application Woes

Since upgrading atv to v3.0.1 and nitoTV to 0.8.2 the Applications menu will no longer open the Applications folder. I get the "boop" sound, but no open App folder. I can go to Files>OSBoot>Applications and launch an app from there though, but with some problems. When I quit it, I get An error occurred - Press play/pause to restart your Apple TV, whereupon I just shell in and kill the Finder.

I should note that I created my new patchstick for v3.0.1 from atvusb-creater. I also removed its installed SoftwareMenu.app.

And, not related to the above, but a separate question:
I use my atv to access all of my media via afp mounts. On my computer I dual boot Debian and OSX. If I reboot my computer while the atv has drives mounted, is there a shell command to restart the afp service on the atv to clear the old mounts and remount them? Right now, I reboot the atv, which is less than ideal.

Text Entry with ABC Mode

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, the topic keywords are to vague for me to adequately mine the search results. Is there a way to enable ABC mode text entry similar to a cell phone with a universal remote on the ATV? It would be cool if the "2" button on the remote could mean 2, A, B or C when entering text. I've used JP1 to program remotes before so maybe the code could be on the remote side, though I doubt it.

Sapphire & XML Data

Hello.
I have a few movies which aren't listed on IMDB or the other sites Sapphire uses to fetch data � so, wondering what I can do via an XML file for designating the information for these movies?
I use custom XML files for modifying movie titles and other data, but I'm unsure how to actually designate a file as a movie vs TV show so they show up in the "Movies" or "TV" virtual directories within Sapphire?
Anyone have any insight into this?

NitoTV 0.8.2 breaks Applications? screen black

Hello,

I have a problem with nitoTV and using applications (EyeTV 3.02)

EyeTV was working well with ATV 2.4 and nitoTV 0.8.1. I updated to ATV 3.01 and nitoTV 0.8.2, EyeTV was not starting (no error-massage, just not starting. Pressing "Menu" on the remote brings back to ATV)

After factory reset and downgrading to ATV 2.4 (with atvPawn) everything works well, evan EyeTV. But switching back from current app. (EyeTV) leaves a black screen. ATV is working normally, I can control it with the apple-remote, but I have a black screen until restart. (Same with screensharing from my mac: only black screen): AppleRadio :P

Any ideas? (perhaps a link to nitoTV 0.8.1 to test, if the update causes the black screen)

AC3/DTS audio on non-AC3/DTS system...

Hello.

I'm running ATV OS 3.0.1 and use Sapphire for video playback. I don't have AC3/DTS speakers/system, so I assume when I'm playing videos with AC3 encoded audio there's some sort of downconverting going on (sorry, I'm not a big audiophile).

The problem I'm having is that the voices when people speak in the audio are usually really hard to hear, while the rest of the sound (music, FX, etc.) is way loud. So, we end up cranking the volume when we can't hear people talking, then the next scene is some action scene and the volume is crazy loud.

Does anyone know what might be wrong/a possible solution?

Prior to using an Apple TV I used a Powerbook with VLC and I solved this by double-processing the audio through the EQ, but there's no option for this on the ATV and I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this issue?

Any help would be appreciated!

Trying to install nitoTV take three 0.8.2.

when running sudo ./installme i get the following error

How does "Custom..." option work? I've downloaded 3.0.1 version dmg and applied atvPwn with the custom option. It uploaded final.dmg to appletv's Uploads folder. But there are no IR, GF & EFI updates. Should I upload them manually and fire up osupdate?
Or should I wait for updated atvPwn?

ATV update question

im on version 2.0 but im always getting "itunes not available" unless I upgrade to 3.0 Is there a way to upgrade my ATV to a newer version below 3.0 since I want to use the hack.

Would somebody help out with this error installing NitoTV Take Three.
first I installed patchstick, upgraded atv 2.4 to 3, (patchstick wasnt working), did factory reset back to 2.4, upgraded atv 2.4 to 3 againe, intalled patchstick(works now), ssh into atv and copied NitoTV there(cyberduck), Now ssh with terminal, cd nitoTv take three, then.....

Apple TV DMG

I'm wondering what the link is to the AppleTV DMG files and what type of CPU they run on (Intel core 2 duo would work?).

I wish to run these on VMWare so I can begin hacking and modifying an AppleTV without actually owning one or (possibly) bricking an actual device.

I hope to bring some great things to the AppleTV hacking community, except I don't have an AppleTV yet :P

Please Help: ATV OS Upgrade broke Apple Remote

Hi,

I had a perfectly working ATV with OS 2.2 patched with atvusbcreator, nitoTV, ....

then I've upgraded to 2.4 by sftp'ing the 2.4 dmg into Upgrades and running osupgrade

now my ATV no longer responds to the white Apple Remote

the light on the ATV flashes when I press a button and I can even pair and unpair (tried over a dozen times) using Menu+<< and Menu+>> but otherwise it wont react to any button or menu press for navigation

the IPhone Remote App still works fine

tried again with upgrading to 2.4 with and without patchstick - no go
even after an osupgrade to 3.0 still the same

what am I missing ?

any ideas please ?

I really dont want to do a factory reset and wipe all my data - plus without the remote working I dont even know how to do one.

ssh work fine so repair or debugging shouldnt be a problem

load kext, fails on rc.local and StartupItems, load OK on terminal

HI,

I just joined this forum for a strange problem that I cant solve.

A have an AppleTV 40 GB
1.0 -> 3.0 with ssh

I installed the TVComposite.kext and it works.

I can sudo loadkext TVComposite.kext and the BW becomes color.

All is fine.

I would like to autoload this to run on each boot. I powerdown my Apple TV everyevening.

I tried 2 attemped

1: add TVComposite.kext to rc.local. ( the TVComposite.kext gets loaded but the image is still BW)

2: StartupParameters.plist (the TVComposite.kext gets loaded but the image is still BW)

Sometimes in loads OK and the BW goes to Color. Most of the times it does not.

HOWEVER.
If I remove the autostartups in rc.local or StartupParameters.plist I can ALWAYS load the kext from the ssh commandline.

The question now is.
1: why wont the kext autoload
2: why does manually loading it through ssh alway work
3: how can I autoload the Kext?

I ordered an e-sata kit (cable to attach an ext. drive to ATV) from applecoreonline.
The guy I am in contact with is Brock Patrick.

Does anybody know this outfit, any experiences?

Reason why I am asking, I was provided tracking info for my shipment, when used it only states USPS was electronically notified they would get a shipment....I also don't get any reaction on the fact i can't login to their manuals site using the credentials they provided.

Could I be ripped off for a mere $50?

Hello. I have a Macbook with a broken screen. The actuall computer works just fine. I'm new to this Back Row and Front Row stuff but is there anyway to install Front Row to my mac so that i can connect it to my TV and use it as a AppleTV? Is this what Back Row is just for?
