Hi guys,

I've read numerous threads, tried a few different setups but cant seem to get this right, always get stuck at the same place.

I'm trying to install OSX on my Asus 1005HA netbook, I dont have an external cd drive so I'm using a USB flash disk, I've tried creating a bootable usb drive installation from 4 different ISO's and modding the image to make it bootable, done it from windows and OSX, fat32 and HFS+ partitions but nothing.

The issue is whenever I boot off the USB drive I get a blank screen with a blinking cursor and nothing more. I've left it for a while but it doesnt progress, all the tut's I've read assume I get this part right so theres no help regarding it.

Any ideas guys, I'm guessing it's somthing simple I'm missing. Used OSX tools to install the boot EFI using V8 and V9 on iDeneb 10.5.5-10.5.8 and even 10.6 as an image off my original Snow Leopard disk but no luck.

Any help greatly appretiated, really wanna dual boot.

Cheers

I'm looking into installing Snow Leopard on my girlfriends Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. I'm trying to figure out where to start. What is the easiest way to get started and ensure that everything will work properly? I'm planning on replacing the existing HDD to a newer, faster model, with more space, and partitioning it to load Windows on one partition, and Snow Leopard on another.

More info.

Have Leopard install disc. Some of the things I have seen say it is better to upgrade to Snow Leopard from a succesful Leopard install. Any thoughts?

I have an older iMac G5 available to do any of the customizing of the boot disc I need to.

Dell Inspiron 1720 has 4GB of ram, so I'll probably want to take advantage of Snow Leopards 64 bit capability.

What else do I need before starting down this road?

Retail install on Acer AOD250...Please help!

Hi all,

I purchased the Acer AOD250 yesterday...1g ram, 250g hd model. I bought the netbook specifically to install OSX on it. I have 2 Macs here at home and purchased OSX Leopard retail dvd for the install on the Acer.

The BIOS is V1.13 and I tried to downgrade to v.3304 because it was what I found a tutorial on to install OSX. The acer will not let me downgrade the BIOS so I'm now looking for help.

I have the Retail OSX Leopard dvd and am creating a disk image of the DVD right now. How can I install this on the Acer???

I grew up teching Windows machines and then Macs for the past 4-5 years or so, but installing OSX on a PC is a new animal to me.

Please....any help is greatly appreciated. I don't have any use for a Windows machine, and my wife wanted a netbook with OSX on it. She likes the size of the netbook and I've seen many reports of successful installs. Thanks in advance for your time! I really appreciate it -

i used this guide but it hanged at boot up. Cant even go into installation screen.

i also tried the other way....boot without the -v . It loaded up to the apple and a message told me to restart! The 2nd time got there agsin but it hang there.

my 1008ha is the newest one which is the one with windows 7 starer? Would that be a problem? or is it the bios problem?

Also the bootlog at the end says " couldnt read user-specific computer name..... use default instead
.................................... local host name..... use default instead
