I have an iPhone 2g running 3.1.2. I am starting to notice abnormal problems with my keyboard when I am texting.

I did a perfect restore of the phone about 2 weeks ago, and I haven't had problems, but just starting today I have been noticing laggy/sticky/inaccurate keyboard problem. For example when I am texting in landscape mode I try to type the letter "n", it keeps pressing the "spacebar" and the "delete" button. When I press the "spacebar" it doesn't work... Sometimes it just presses the "enter" or the "spacebar" button randomly and just holds on to it, like a sticky keyboard...

I used to get this problem before also, but I thought it was a bug because I restored my sms.db file, but last time I restored my iPhone, I didn't restore the sms.db just to make sure I don't get the same problem...

Anyone know what would be causing this problem? The phone doesn't seem to have any hardware damage, it is in very good condition...

Hello Guys,
i just bought my new iphone 3gs officially unlocked. i like the phone but im disappointed of its slow wifi. its on 3.1.2 working very good but slow wifi ( only on my router) and for technical reasons i cannot change the router.. so maybe an advanced settings toggle will fix it:
here are my router settings ( default)
Operating Mode	802.11 b/g ( i tried b alone and g alone no use.)
Operating Channel 6 ( tried 9 also becomes a bit faster but not enough)
WPA2 AES: 12345678
Beacon Interval	100 ms
RTS Threshold 2345
ragmentation Threshold	2344 bytes
DTIM Interval: 3
CTS Protection Mode enable
WMM Disbaled
i get slooooow speeds using speedtest.app and slow browsing and ofc. slow utube. really ******* me off. although on computer its much much faster... (ps im sure im on wifi xD)

thanks guys

Hi,

At the moment I'm abroad with my iPhone. I want to be able to use a UK SIM, but I have a couple of questions.

1, Do I have to have to Jailbreak my iPhone in order to use any SIM? or am I able to just unlock it?

2, I have my Laptop with me, but my iPhone is backed up from iMac at home (Music, Photos, Apps etc) Will I lose all of this when Unlocking my iPhone?

3, Once I'm back home, will I be able to remove the Jailbreak and update as normal? (I'm on an iPhone contract at home)

Any help would be great!

Cheers,

According to Research Firm Gartner’s forecasting the aforementioned question has already been answered thanks to a future valuation of mobile market share. The firm predicts that by 2012 Android will own nearly 18 percent of the market and maintain the number 2 position below top ranked Nokia who will own 37.4 percent. Android will be followed by BlackBerry OS with 13.9 percent and iPhone with 13.6 percent. While the news that Android will move to the number 2 position is impressive, the outlook for Windows Mobile is bleak at best thanks to a forecasted 9 percent market share in 2012.

Android is the 1st, iPhone is the 4th, do you believe this? if you don't believe, why? If you believe, will you re-develop your iPhone apps to Android apps? as a professional android outsourcing service provider, we are very concerned about it.

Hi there!

I've got a defect on my iPhone 3GS which I'm running on 3.1.2. pwned and jailbroken at the moment.

I waited quite some time until geohots Blacksn0w was released to go to apple for the replacement.

As I understand it all ootb phones can be jailbroken and unlocked at the moment.

So the only risk I'm looking is that Apple gets a new baseband update within the next weeks and they give me a new baseband in exchange instead of a unlockable 05.11.07 which is rather minimal.

Am I correct with this and should I proceed with the exchange or have I missed anything relevant?

Thank you so much!

Hi. My phone broke today and it won't restore. :(

I am getting error (9) every time I try. I have tried using a different cable, different port, different computer (that didn't have iTunes on it to begin with), reinstalled iTunes, I found a YouTube video that suggested removing all files from Application Data\Apple Computer so I moved those, and I've tried recovering from both normal recovery and DFU mode (I think, it's hard to know that you've succeeded). Error (9) every time.

I have a 3.1 OOTB iPhone that was upgraded to 3.1.2 today. I originally had an issue where something happened to the root password (SSH just stopped taking it and I didn't switch it), so I successfully restored and then when I wanted to install Winterboard the phone just froze for an hour on the Apple logo. Restored again and got further that time, but after installing CategoriesSB, the Springboard seemed to permanently break and every time I made an SB refresh I got dumped in safe mode -- and the only way out of that was using Categories' SB refresh.

Went for another restore and that's when I was just stopped dead in my tracks; error (9) every time now after dozens of attempts.

Somewhere along this line, iTunes lost track of my backed-up data so that seems to be completely gone now.

The only thing I can think of is that my phone and jailbreak hates 3.1.2, as I was running on 3.1 until it updated when I did my first restore. But there was no other option but "update and restore," and I thought 3.1.2 was cracked so I just allowed it. Was that a really bad idea? Can I go back to 3.1 somehow?

Any help is hugely appreciated. I've only had my 3GS for two months, meaning I have 22 months of contract for it left. :(

Hi
I have 16gb iphone 3g. it has no reception for wifi or gps. it says no network on wifi screen. For the GPS it says waiting for gps reception constantly. it looks like it is a loose antenna problem but its not. i changed the antenna and problem didnt resolve. I restored it to factory defaults with 3.1.2 ipsw problem remained. anyhow I searched the google and find out if I put it in the freezer for 15 minutes it may work for 2-3 minutes. I tried it and suprisingly it worked. It worked for 20 seconds. I wonder if anyone can explain the logic behind this freezer trick so that I can replace the damaged part if it is possible. I took it to an apple store they said warranty expired 27 days ago. (it sucks i know)

IHTC clockweather and Ireda 2.0
but both failed to install properly, i guess they not compatible with 3.12
so i made some changes and got them to appear on the lockscreen
I prefer the iHTC theme but its missing the date stamp

this one is okay but it has date stamp no temperature

so want i would tro try and do and i've been at it for a few hours and i'm not good with javascript...i wish to put a date time stamp like ireda has onto the iHTC one, this one i like better cuz it has the temperature also and other does not.

does anyone know how to edit the file so a date time stamp appears?
here are the Lockbackground.html files for both themes

can anyone help me to edit the iHTC theme so it shows the date please??
and possibly edit the ireda one so a temperature in fahrenheit appears?

thank you for any help or advice in advance.

please keep in mind i take no credit for making these, all i know is after they installed from cydia they did not work. so I copied the lockbackground.htlm to new location and or renamed it, something was goofy that did not work right, i got it almost there but missing temp

Here is a history as to the start of the problems:

Phone got wet by sitting in a cup holder that had coffee in it (about 2 months ago).

Phone, after drying in rice, worked for a couple of weeks to a month and then just shuts down or coma'd in sleep mode. "Home + power buttons", power, home, etc will not respond (so it is not the normal coma mode). I cannot get is out of this and just have to wait the amount of time it decides. It does it several times a day now. Phone will not turn on until plugged into computer and then it is real sporadic when it wants to. When it does this, it can do it for 10 minutes on up to 18 hours. It worked for 2 days straight and then went back to this cycle of not working.

Every once in a while screen goes white then lines of colors. Reboot eventually fixes this when it decides it wants to turn back on.

When phone is on and working it seems to not have problems and makes calls well, wi-fi works good, mms etc. I have loaded software several times so now if feel it is a hardware problem.

This is an iphone 2g unlocked and jailbroke with 3.1.2 custom software and baseband left at 4.

Thanks.

Restoring sms.db Help Please!!!

Before I restored my iPhone, I made sure to back up the sms.db (all my text messages) file so I can restore it later. I was NOT updating my iPhone to a new firmware, I was just restoring my iPhone to 3.1.2.

My basic method of restoring sms.db is that I just replace sms.db file with my backed up one. But the problem that occurs is when I write a txt and when I tap on "Send", the program crashes and doesn't let me send/receive any text.

Once thing I noticed on a freshly restored iPhone is that the permission of the sms.db file is 0644. So what I did was, when I replaced it with my backed sms.db file, I changed the permission to 0777 so it would stop crashing on me.

The idea above worked perfectly fine. But I noticed adverse effect on my phone. Whenever I am txting now, the keyboard starts acting weird. When I am typing the keys are very off... For example if I type the letter "W" it going to type "Q". Not only, sometimes I experience "stick keys". It is so bad, I can't txt at all...

So what could be causing this problem and what is the "proper" way of restoring a backed up sms.db?

Help with keep ipod app running during dock/undock

Hopefully this isn't too vague but does anyone know if there is a tweak/utility or something that will allow the ipod to keep playing music even when the iphone is undocked then docked again.

Whenever I'm in the car and listen to music I connect my iphone to a dock that's connected through AUX and the car cigerette lighter outlet. It allows it to be charged while playing music. My issue is when the car hits bumps it sometimes undocks and very quickly docks again. It may be quick but it's enough time to pause my music which in turn forces me to hit play again which can sometimes be bad while driving.

So back to the headline, if anyone knows of a way for me to keep the music playing when the phone undocks and docks that would be great.

Oh and I'm running an iPhone 3G 3.1.2 jailbroken with blackra1n, cydia installed.

How to create a unique certificate for your iPhone for Push Notification

First, a big thanks to Aviegas for writing this tutorial. This tutorial appeared in a different long thread. For the history of the original discussion, you can read it here. By making it into a new thread and sticky, it will be easier for users to follow and easier to find

You need to get Dev Team's PushFix here. You need it for generating & injecting the certs.
(Don't get mix up with the PushFix available in Cydia that people are using (cydia.iphoneil.net) after jailbreaking with blackra1n RC3)

To generate a cert, one must:

1) Start with a clean iPhone, after a RESTORE with a Pwned (Custom) IPSW *WITHOUT HACKTIVATION*

2) iTunes activate for Apple to sign the new set of certificates

3) Install (Cydia) SSH or terminal

4) Install a valid PUSH App and RUN THE APP (this will activate the certificates)

5) Install "nimble" (from the Dev Team Fix package), using SFTP or iFunBox, on the /Library/Keychains directory

6) Open a root shell on the iPhone (SSH or "terminal" + "su -") and "cd /Library/Keychains"

7) Make "nimble" executable: chmod +x nimble

8) Then "nimble" (extract) the certificates

9) Copy the 4 .bin files to a safe directory on your Mac/PC using SFTP or iFunBox

10) Zip the directory, send to the lucky receiver AND ERASE IT SO THAT ONLY ONE PERSON WILL HAVE THIS SET OF CERTIFICATES

11) Remove all files and folders in "/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown"

12) Turn "Push notifications" OFF and remove the PUSH APP you installed

13) Reboot the iPhone

14) iTunes activate for Apple to sign the new set of certificates

15) GO TO STEP (4)

Now to install the certificates:

1) Start with a jailbroken and hacktivated iPhone AND REMOVE ALL PUSH NOTIFICATION APPS AND TURN NOTIFICATION OFF

2) Install (Cydia) SSH or terminal

3) Copy (SFTP or iFunBox) the 4 bin files and "inject" (from the Dev Team fix) to /Library/Keychains"

4) Open a root shell on the iPhone (SSH or "terminal" + "su -") and "cd /Library/Keychains"

5) Make "inject" executable "chmod +x inject"

6) Run "inject"

7) remove "inject" and the bin files from your iPhone

8) Reinstall the required PUSH APP and test

9) On your PC, save the bin files for future use, but ONLY ON THIS IPHONE. DO NOT SHARE THIS FILES OR EVEN INSTALL ON ANOTHER IPHONE.

** THE SET OF CERTIFICATES ARE UNIQUE TO AN IPHONE **

The certs contains an UUID (unique ID) that is used to distinguish the phones for PUSH notifications. If 2 iPhones have the same certs, push notifications will not be able to distinguish them and the last one to register with the push server will be the one active.

** If you have a hacktivated iPhone, then the *only* way to get push notification is to make the "certificate transplant" and keep them *unique*.

Is no-one else seeing this? I have just updated my 3.0 3GS to 3.1.2 using iTunes having never jailbroken or unlocked and with official SIM. Everything done with Apple's stuff their recommended way. I used the opportuntiy to grab my iBEC and iBSS as well as ECID/SHSH but didn't do anything unofficial to the phone.

Now it is slow as hell. The update mentioned fixing the wake-up slowness bug that happened occasionally on 3.0, but now it is much more frequent and many times worse. The whole UI lags - the unlock slide, wake-up, keyboard, starting an app or going home. We're talking whole seconds here, not small delays. It seems a bit intermittent - was fine for most of this post but now keyboard lagging like hell. Reboot fixes for a while but then starts again. Almost as if something in background is hogging CPU. Any ideas?
