Help with Toshiba c2d, geforce 230M laptop

Can someone let me know what would be the best distro for me to use with a toshiba a505-6986. It has a T6600 core 2 duo and an nvidia gforce 230M, with 3 gigs ddr3 ram, (full specs here http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/cont...A505-S6986.pdf).

I have tried iAtkos but when the cd boots i get kernal panic and a bug screen of text rather than install. I have successfully installed it on my older laptop so i am not completely new to this. Would snow leopard universal work with my configuration? how about any other snow leopard distros? if not what should i look into? Also what are the things in the bios that i would have to change to get it to boot? thanks a lot for your time.

What version of iAtkos that you try? Ideneb 1.6 should have no problem. SL universal 3.6 should also install without much trouble.

I tried v7. It could be because i didnt change anything in my bios? it was a while ago that i did my old hackintosh and forgot what i changed then to get it to work, what setting would i have to change if any? Also would any snow leapord distros work? thanks alot.

aldo one more question, is it possible to install osx on a partition of an external HDD?

I made me laugh hard during my bad time.
I thought I already mentioned it, well, I do it again then. Snow Leopard universal v3.6.
You can retry that v7 though I'm not quite sure if it's harder than ideneb 1.6.
Boot options -x -v cpus=1

Hey i seem to have run into a wierd problem. I was able to get universalOSX to install fine on an external esata drive and even booted it up, but then i shut it down and when i started up again the boot options in my bios are simply blank now.

The first three boot options should be 1)esata/usb 2)main HDD 3)cd/dvd and they are simply blank in both the bios boot manager as well as the boot manager you go to when you press f12 at start up. So now i cannot boot back into OSX nor can i even boot to the cd/dvd to try to re-install it. Is there any fixes for this? it seems really odd. Thanks for any help.

That is not very weird and I think your BIOS has reset itself. You could go to your BIOS and set it up again, make sure that it recognizes all your hardware. May have to do it 2 times.
Start up your OSX and while your into it, install CMOS fix. You can find that in kexts.com. SL DSDT file violates 2 bits of RTC memory address.

lol i got that fixed but now when i boot into osx my laptop keyboard wont work and niether does my usb one so i cant add kexts :(

Hi,
Good job fixing it.
For your keyboard/mouse you can try the VoodooPS2. For USB fix, I would check to make sure that you got your chipsets kexts install, then also there are fix for USB recognition.
You also can find those kexts in kexts.com, in Misc or Chipset sections.

the universal osx distro i used didnt have that at the begening where you customize so how would i add it after I install the OS because whenever i try to add a kext a need to type in my password as well as a few other commands corrects? no keyboard means no typing. Is there anyway to bundle all the kexts I need into that customize area at install?

I also tried to install hazards distro because it looks like that has all the special kexts i need bundled with it but when i try to boot it from dvd to install I just get the apple spinny disk forever and then a little error circle (circle with cross through it) shows up on the apple and the wheel just keeps on spinning but the dvd stops reading and it never loads.

You got me confused now. So SL Universal 3.6 installed and boot up OK, but you don't have the keyboard, correct?
Use USB keyboard/mouse if needed to until you get the kexts installed. Download kext helper b7 (kext installer) at kexts.com for easier kexts install.

At the installer screen (when you load the DVD) where you select your customization, did you select PS2 drivers for keyboard and mouse?
