It could run Leopard though (albeit probably not too well).
The OP could try a Leopard distro like iPC and select the SSE2 kernel and if it's not quick enough, install a 10.4 distro like you suggested.

I have read that you have install Leopard on Dimension 8250.
I have a one with Pentium 4 3ghz and 1 gb RAM.
I think Leopard will Be works fine on this one but i don't now how to install it.
Can you write me how i can install Leopard. What i must install?
I have can install ideneb but it don't boot. When i trials to install ipc then i get a Kernel Panic "unable to find driver for this platform ACPI".
Help me plz.
