    Default mini itx question

ok... so i ordered my intel atom 330 dual core motherboard day before yesterday and was looking to boot windows, linux, and mac. i've dual booted windows and linux before and am fine with the grub bootloader. question is which distro will work best with my setup?

    Intel D945GCLF2 mini-ITX motherboard
    nvidia 9400 GT 512mb PCI (not pci-e)
    2gb pny ddr2 @667mhz
SAMSUNG 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

that's the idea. was prolly gonna stencil an apple, window and a tux ont he top of the case, lol. but yeah. what's going to be best for this setup?

No idea about this mobo, google it, try with iPC or iDeneb, report your progress in the installation forum.

Check the official sites for each distro to know the basics

Default Will not work as you desire

First, you occupy the single PCI slot with the nvidia, the onboard NIC has no unix drivers [at least I could not find one], You need any even legacy NIC to work that plugs on your PCI slot. The onboard VGA is ok, I used this as FreeNAS server. It great for that, but I suspect you need the bigger MB to emulate the macmini, the new MB is coming out soon!

ok, so i downloaded and installed KALYWAY_LEO_10.5.1intel_SSE2_SSE3 and everything worked straight up, took just short of 2 hours to fkn install with the shitty drive i had in it. well the audio didnt work but with a quick googling i found a custom kext that fixed it the first go-round. here in about a week i'll have either some older 256mb ATI video vard or a pci version of a nvidia 9400 GT to put in it. thinking of building a real classy glass and wood case or doing something steam-punk-ish.

installed ubuntu 8.10 and everything worked, got the "high graphics" to work with the wobbly windows. and windows xp pro SP2 worked fine as well. all in all this is a great board.

doing this mostly to see if i can build a uber-cheap (relatively) gamable rig that uses low power and is small.

I can't get audio to work on that mobo using either Kalyway or iPC. I'm about to try iATKOS. If that doesn't work, do you remember the name of the audio patch you found?

ok, so after helping out with the drivers i decided to write out a little update

(this was done earlier which is why posts are so close together, lol)

i'm fabricating a completely from scratch clear acrylic case for my dual core atom board, 1 standard 3.5 inch drive, slim dvd-cd/rw, micro ATX psu, and putting a PCI riser card for a pci format nvidia 9400 video card. will be using an old ATI video card just to make sure everything workd right and i can get it in a package that i'm comfortable with and like.

the inside is all aluminum stock from a local hardware store i get pretty cheap. just finished getting everything shaped for the harddrive/optical space.

going to take a dremmel to a solid motherboard tray from some barbie mini itx case i got for free.

lol you should see it now, it's in this ugly ugly inside case from that barbie case with a brick of an ATX power supply sitting on top freely. but heh it works, that's where i'm typing it from.

before now i had bashed mac software, then got curious, and here i am, it could just be that new OS feeling, like a new GF, but i think i love this OS, lol

    Default Mini-ITX

The D945GCLF2 is a great board for a mini-Hackint0sh. Buy the retail version of OS X 10.5.6, download D945GCLF2-driver-pack-v2.5, RTL1000.kext & efi-boot-v6.1. Read all guides and install. Have been running for a month with no problems. I use this setup for iLife, Garage Band, Logic Express & Photoshop. I have it installed in Apex MI-008 with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-216D drive, a 500GB 2.5 drive, 2GB of RAM & a PCI FireWire card. It is a sweet & cheap little machine.

My next project is a NVIDIA GeForce 7050 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard with a Core2Quad and 4 GB RAM.
