Default Looking for advice on distro for AMD system

    Hi

I have an asus M2n32-SLI deluxe mobo, AMD 64 x2 6000 processor. Asus GeForce 7300GT nvidia graphics card, 4 gig ram, a couple of SATA HDD.

I have tried installing iDeneb v1.3, I managed to install once(took absolutely ages)and took ages to boot. But was unable to get past the registration as my keyboard would not work.

Everyother time I tried installing it would not boot at all, as if the hard drives stopped spinning.

So if anyone can help with the advice on the correct distribution, what drivers and how to install them and also correct BIOS setup and HDD configuration I would be very grateful.

    Dave

    Hello flyingchorse,

I have pretty much the same HW as you do:
    AMD x2 64 4000+,
    M2N-E SLI MB,
    2 GB 800 MHZ PQI,
    nVidia 8600 GT 256MB,
    two WD SATA disks,
    and an Optiarc SATA DVD/RW.

I also had Logitech PS/2 keyboard, which did not work during installation, so the way I solved the keyboard problem was to buy a USB keyboard. I know it's not much of a solution, but I was really getting frustrated with the whole installation process that took me some 3 days.
You could try unplugging anything you don't really need during the installation, like USB devices, the SATA disk you're not using,...
It is also possible that the memory beyond 2GB can cause the install to hang. Not sure about this, but look it up.

I'm having trouble with my network as well. I have an Asus M2N-E SLI MB, with nForce 500 chipset on it. I don't know what is the exact lan chip used, so I don't know how to set it up. I'll check it today when i get back from work in windows. Any help is really appreciated!

    Hi icchansan,

I've tried to find out what the lan chipset is, but no luck, I'm afraid. lspci in Linux only shows:

nVidia Corporation CK804 Ethernet Controller (rev f3)
with vendorID and productID being: 10de:0057,
I've managed to google out somewhere that the actual physical chip is Marvell 88E11 PHY, but not too sure about this.

Linux forcedeth driver supports this card, not sure if the osx86 driver is the same?
    I have iDeneb v1.3 10.5.5 installed.
    Thanks in advance.

OK, today I bought a Realtek 8139 based lan card, working without having anything to work on it! And the best thing is that it cost me only 4 euros!
