ECS Nforce 570 SLIT-A (which distro)
In a previous post by me :
My desktop has an ECS NFORCE 570 SLIT-A (V5.1) motherboard. Yeah, I know it's crap but it was given to me for free, the whole computer, so I can't complain. I'll list the specs of the motherboard below. Right now I'm dual booting with Windows XP Pro 64bit and Vista Ultimate 32bit. I want to scrap both of those, I think, and only run Mac OS_X. Will it be possible to get OS_X installed on this desktop machine?

Ok, so I tried v7 of iAtkos because I had it laying around. I had a few others as a matter of fact but none of them would even boot in the install. Once I get this v7 of iAtkos into install, at the screen where you select the destination drive, there is nothing there. You go into the disk utility and you can see the drives installed on my computer but they are lightly grayed out and you can not select or mount them. I did manage to get an IDE drive to mount, format and begin to install but then I got an error screen like the one you get when you have a kernel panic.
So what I'm asking is, is there a distro that will work with my motherboard? If there is, can someone please just name it straight out for me, I'll find it on my own. Does anyone know if this motherboard requires patching the distro before you attempt to install, if so, can you help point me into the direction of what patch I need.
I've got OS_X running on my laptop...but I originally wanted this on my desktop and that's why I'm attempting this install again.
Don't know if it's OK to bump my own thread or not but I was hoping someone could answer this post.
Wondered if anyone knows whether or not this board will take an install using the SATA or if it has to be on the IDE channel.
Well, I highly doubt anybody else will be using this super-POS board for one of these projects but if you do, I can tell you what distro to try first.
The iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 Final version will boot and install on this motherboard if you are using a IDE DVD drive and a SATA hard drive.
You'll need a special kext for the LAN to work but you can forget sleep working properly. Most everything else will work just fine, use the NVinject 0.2.1 for video if you are using an Nvidia 7600GS card. Using the nForceATA chipset driver will let you run 4 gigs of ram without problem.
Probably best to use USB keyboard & mouse cause I've yet to get PS/2 keyboard or mouse to work even though I've used the fixes and stuff for it.
Can be easily updated to 10.5.7 using the iDeneb Combo updater. Just make sure to use the iDeneb tool that is included in that download and reinstall the VooDoo kernel and Chameleon bootloader before rebooting the computer.
Updating to 10.5.8 is a little bit trickier and I haven't worked that out completely yet although I am currently using 10.5.8 but haven't rebooted it yet. Boot was kinda slow and laggy compared to the 5.7 or even 5.6 install.
If I could just figure out how to get the iDeneb 10.5.8 lite edition to boot up on this system, then I'd be happier cause it has the newer Chameleon included. That newer bootloader is what I think gave me some trouble on this board. I've done no DSDT patching and maybe if I knew how then things would go a bit smoother than they are now, I don't know.
did you get firewire working with that VIA 6307 chipset?
if so did you get working natively or need a kext you found somewhere? i just got a cheap $10 firewire card with this chipset from meritline and I'd like to get it running if possible
thank you for coming back and updating your thread, despite nobody offering you any advice. it looks like you got it sorted out yourself just fine
Almost a year late on the answer to your question, sorry. I don't know if firewire ever worked or not as I don't own anything that uses firewire. So testing it wasn't possible, I can say that I too had an add-in card for firewire but never have touched it with a cable yet.
I ran this for awhile and ended up buying a real Mac Pro desktop, so I ditched OS_X on this computer and went back to Windows. I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on it and after returning to this site after a long vacation, I believe I'm going to reinstall this version on that computer again. I'm glad nobody deleted the thread. If I end up with anything running on firewire, then I'll report that back here sometime, maybe not in a year...sorry again.
