Dell Inspiron 531 help
Ok, from what I've gathered my system requires a release with the voodoo kernel. Im completely new to anything mac related, I think the last time I used one was about 9 years ago, but only in a music class.
my specs:
Dell Inspiron 531
Athlon 64 X@ 4400+
nForce 430 (MCP61)
Pheonix - AwardBIOS TeDell System v6.00PG
2x1GB DDR2-666 SDRAM
250GB SATA HD
HL-DT-ST CD-RW/DVD-ROM GCC-H10N
GeForce 8600 GT
onboard sound - Realtek ALC888
onboard ethernet
I currently have vista installed. If I partition off a part of the drive as empty unformatted space will that allow me to install os X without affecting vista?
Also, how straight forward is the install process? I haven't actually found a tutorial or walk through of the process.
Will the iPC 10.5.6 release work well with my specs? Would you guys know what won't work and if I can fix it with a pci card or what have you?
Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Looks really great, google about how to install leopard on chipset nforce 430, good luck
The installation will affect vista bootloader if you install in the same disk, but you can fix just booting with Vista Disc, then repair bootloader and thats it, it will take like 1min or less... to manage dual boot the FAQ, the link is in my signature...

Alright! so its worked for the most part, but Im having a little trouble with the networking.
I go into the network settings and its connected to the ethernet, using DHCP, but the ip address is self assigned? whats that about? the ip is 169.254.222.192 but that doesn't go along with the pc's which should be 192.168.1.10x
it gets a subnet mask but it doesn't match the one on my pc. mac = 255.255.0.0; pc = 255.255.255.0.
any help would be appreciated.
and thank you for all the help already with all the great info on this board.
