Unlock/JB/Activate iphone 3g3 new bootrom
Hi guys,
just bought myself a 3gs.... very exited but one problem its locked to rogers and i need it unlocked/jb'd... I would like to unlock jb it on the new update but in my limited knowledge i dont think that can be done... yet. First problem, I don't have a rogers sim to activate the phone, is there a way to get around this? i can get my hands on a sim if thats necessary?
But the whole thing of unlocking and jbing is very new to me ive never owned an iphone before
I'm such a newbie im worried i could hurt my iphone is that possible??
Aswell once its jb'd where do i find all the apps for free???
It's on the new bootrom i do believe as on the back of the box it says MC...
Can someone please give me a little advice or atleat point me to the right thread....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well if your planning on jailbreaking and/ or unlocking a 3gs then you are out of luck, because that is not possible at the moment. many hackers are working on a jailbreak for this and if i were you i would search the forum first because i have seen this question answered about 4000 times. thanks

To truly help, we'll need to know whether your device is a new bootrom or old bootrom, and what the current software revision is.
Each software has different jailbreaks. For example, 3.1.2 can use redsn0w or PwnageTool, but 3.1.3 needs Spirit, 4.0 cannot be jailbroken while running on a 3GS (only on 3G), etc.
Before getting ahead of yourself, let us know what your bootrom version is and what your iOS version is.
To find your bootrom: (Scalped from modmyi, fyi, credit where credit is due.)
1) Put your iphone in DFU mode. (Connect your iPhone to iTunes, turn off, click power+home button for 10 seconds, leave POWER button after 10 seconds, holding HOME button)
2) iTunes will detect your iPhone in recovery mode.
3) Go To: Start->Control Panel->Device Manager
4) In Universal Serial BUS Controller, you will find Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
5) Right Click and go to Properties, go to Details tab and select "Device Instance Path" from the drop down list box.
6) In that information, u will find [iBoot-359.x] at the end.
[iBoot-359.3] is the old bootrom. [iBoot-359.3.2] is the new bootrom. If you have the new bootrom, TAKE NOTE. This has WIDE implications on what you can and cannot do with your device, and if you are asked this question by any of the software and you answer incorrectly, you will wind up with an expensive brick until the new jb tools come out.
