I dont feel you need to downgrade iTunes as you no longer need to run blackra1n to fix your problem. It is no problem asking about downgrading iTunes as that is completely legal. You can find links to all old versions of iTunes here iTunes - The iPhone Wiki

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Also your library might be "too new" for the old version of iTunes. there are various ways around this.

Okay, I think I'm getting the picture. When the time comes, redsn0w will be used to get out of the boot loop by manipulating certian commands (lord knows how I'll actually do that).

This in turn won't requie me to downgrade to an older version of iTunes. As even if I did, blackra1n wouldn't pull me out of the boot loop cause by shitty Rockapp.

I'm not really concerned about my library as all my music is saved on a seperate external drive. I'm more concerned about getting my contact list and SMS recovered from my phone (i never backed it up)...once again...:fail

I guess keep me posted if you see anything on how to use redsn0w with a PC. I am also willing to donate to for help with this matter.

As this is a "one time only" fix you could try and borrow a mac for 15 minutes from a friend to run the fix. You could even use a demo mac in an Apple store.

Anything I don't already know how to fix (or can't test in 4-5 mins) goes on a list of "yeah I'll look into that when I have time" - that list is long.

However this problem occurs for quite a few people, there are others with the skills to take this procedure and make it a bit more friendly. It does not help that this programmer has written a whole technical essay about a tool that is actually really simple to run and fix this problem.

There are also some "legal" issues with the re-purposing and redistribution of redsn0w for this fix.

What I would like to see is a script that takes an unmodified redsn0w and tweaks it with the required changes to allow redsn0w to fix this problem. That way the legal issues disappear as the script can be distributed without annoying the devteam.

Lets hope that someone else picks up this ball and runs with it.

I didn't realize that I could use a MAC to solve this problem (don't laugh please), as I have access to my sisters.

The write up is difficult to understand. I'm going to try and read through it a few more time and see if anything sinks in. I'll let you know how it goes. Anything I should lookout for so I don't mess my sisters comp up or brick my iPhone for good?

In the process of trying the 'fix'. I have concerns about what bootrom I have. As I have one of the first 3gs out and have never updated it, backed it up. I have only seen it sync when attached to itunes.

I'm downloading ipsw3.0 as I believe that is the one I have. Although I am not 100% sure. I've tried some searching but all these key words seem to be tied to almost every thread.

Any advise on how to find out which ones I have, note that I am unable to access the phone as it's stuck in a boot loop.

This is what my iphone shows: I don't see anything about iboot in there. I've managed to find out it was made in the 26 month thus it has the old bootrom. Does that make sense?

It's actually week 28 of 2009 - so definitely old bootrom.

You were in Recovery mode NOT DFU mode - this is why you could not see the iBoot value.
