is it possible to jailbreak / unlock an iphone 3gs that has not been activated?
i got one for free with out a sim card and i do have a t-mobile sim card is there a way to jailbreak it and unlock it ?

Don't let iTunes "update" the phone, if iTunes opens - just quit it again.

Ok, your unlock options are limited...
Yes you *can* jailbreak and unlock.
I would suggest that you use Pwnagetool 4.2 to jailbreak and update the baseband to 6.15, then unlock with ultrasn0w
