    Default Please Help!!!

Hi all, I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I have searched the threads and can not find an answer.

I have two phones a 8gb 3G and a 8gb 2G, Both are unlocked and both have no wifi. I used the blacksnow unlock on the 3G and I know the wifi on the phone works because I used it to do the unlock though shortly after it unlocked the WIFI went, if I remember correctly it actually worked straight after for a few days then started to drop connection and now just cant find any wireless. The 2G was always fine on wifi and now since I have upgraded to 3.1.2 (i think) it has also gone. I have read a lot of reccomendations to reset network settings, this does not work - on either, still no wifi.

I restored them both from a backup in Itunes and am wondering if that may be the cause. I don't have wifi at home at the moment but could really do with it working for work.

I am personally of the opinion that apple has caused this "bug" and it is inherent in 3.1.2 if unlocked.

Please can anyone offer any recomended action to sort this wifi issue. To be clear I have already reset network settings + reset all settings., so please don't advise that

Thanks in advance for any info/help offered.

There are many different causes for wifi problems. The 2G wifi problems are generally not the same as 3G wifi problems.

What OS were you running on the 2G before you upgraded?

Definitely if you have reliability problems, try a restore and set the iPhone up as new.

There is a known Apple bug in the recent 3G and 3GS baseband that breaks wifi on a small percentage of iPhones, using blacksn0w significantly increases the chance you will have wifi problems. Geohot is looking into this to see if it is possible to work around the Apple bug.

Ok thanks, so going down the route of a clean restore then jailbreak what would you advise to do it with? I.e if not blackrain then how? and if I'm not being too cheeky can you just very briefly outline the steps of what you would do ie:

    1 connect to itunes,

    2 restore

    3 etc etc

I know this is asking a lot but I found the blackrain jailbreak very easy indeed, and also if I restore from my saved backup on itunes would we not be back at square one?

    TIA.

You can still use blackra1n if you really want to..

Think you are confusing IPSW restore (reloading OS/core files) with restore from iTunes backup

    What I meant was:

Backup your iPhone with iTunes and keep that backup safe (I usually zip the folder containing that backup)
Put iPhone in either DFU or recovery mode http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm (recommend DFU)
Restore either with custom IPSW from pwnagetool or original apple ipsw
If you did not use pwnagetool/custom ipsw, jailbreak with blackra1n
    Set up iPhone as new
If it is the 3GS, install blacksn0w to unlock

Test if wifi works. If it does, then you have potentially solved your problem.
If it does not work - roll back your changes by restoring again with DFU/ipsw then restore from the iTunes backup you had zipped up previously.
