No Service with T-Mobile SIM
I cannot get my 3G to find the network, after searching the forums I do not see anyone with my exact issue. The steps I have done:
- Updated to v3.1.2
- Ran Blackra1n
- Ran BlackSn0w
- Iinserted SIM
- Turned Airplane mode off and on to start service search
- Verified 3G is disabled
I still have No Service. Is it possible that it's the phone itself? (guess anything is possible) but has anyone seen that before? Am I missing something obvious?
Any help is appreciated.

You should restore to 3.1.2 rather than upgrade. I doubt it will fix your problem though.
Why did you not try ultrasn0w before taking the one way path to 3.1.2?
Try a reset network settings, that might work.

if you dont have an official SIM, you might have luck doing blackrain with the Tmobile sim installed, not sure..
also, after doing a FW update, finish the rest of the itunes process to identify the iPhone, the part where it says to choose to restore from backup, or setup as new iPhone.
Choose setup as new iPhone.
dont install winterboard, or anything else from Cydia, and btw, only install Cydia, and even before installing Cydia, try first just installing blacksn0w from Blackra1n without cydia.. test one step at a time
Let us know if you make progress

1. ok
2. ok
3. restore with custom firmware 3.1.2 immediately
4. run cydia and let it update
5. add source b lackra1n.com
6. install blacksn0w
7. insert tmobile SIM if it's not in there.
It will take about 30sec to 1 minutes for it lock in the signal. If not, turn off and on phone and wait for it to lock in the signal.
I've done this numerous times on my test iphone 3G and it always work

Yes you need to use blackra1n again. Your Jailbreak will be wiped out from the fresh 3.1.2 restore.

Not true... the restore is a custom ipsw
The reason to use a custom ipsw after blackra1n is that it is generally accepted that the hacktivation in pwnagetool (iused to make custom ipsw) is superior to the haqcktivation in blackra1n.
The user is on windows and the only way to initially jailbreak a 3.1.2 OS is to use blackra1n (on mac you can use blackra1n or pwnagetool to initially jailbreak)
So the approach is to jailbreak with blackra1n then restore with a custom ipsw to get the best of both worlds. (Windows jailbreak plus superior hacktivation)
