Jailbreaking / Unlocking Iphone 3Gs in Emergency Mode.
Hi all,
You people have this great website and it has such a big information heap.
I am a kinda person who doesn't even know what jailbreaking etc. is and is stuck with an iphone 3Gs in emergency mode. I dont even know what model it is ... like 3.1.2 or etc.
I dont know about any tools out there.
with all that hopelessness, I do want to unlock my phone and I really do want to know how to do that. I have been going through these forums and couldn't get hold of where to start. My friends say that i should give it to someone who can do that but even though I could, they just fleece by asking too much money ...
I will be very very thankful to you, if you can tell me the first step or the steps that I have to follow or the things which i need to use my phone ... i will be very grateful to your help ... the phone is unactivated; stuck in emergency mode. The iPhone belongs to another country, so I can't get a hold of the sim which could activate it. Actually when my brother gave it to me, it was working but while I was trying to unlock it, i updated it
I am sure this has been asked before and I saw some of them but the information there is so technical that I feel astrayed.
Many Many Thanks.

i just used f0recast to see the details of my iphone.
They are:-
3.1.3 with baseband 05.12.01
Bootloader : 6.4
Model: MC132
It says it is Jailbreakable only if SHSH is on file. what is SHSH?
It says it is Unlockable
Untethered; depends if it is refurbished? what does that mean?
Many Thanks.

If you've just got a 3.1.3 3GS, you can jailbreak, but it's unsafe right now.
In answer to "What is SHSH?": Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)
Yes, I know that's a long post, but you asked, and it's important information.
You also need to find out what bootrom version you have -- whether iBoot 359.3 or iBoot 359.3.2. If you have 359.3, you can do the following:
1) Spirit to jailbreak your 3.1.3
2) Spirit2Pwn package in Cydia to pwn your Phone
3) PwnageTool to create custom iOS 4.0
4) Shift-restore custom, jailbroken iOS 4.0
If you have 359.3.2, you can do the following:
1) Spirit to jailbreak to 3.1.3
2) Wait until new tools are released.
It is recommended that you download and use the Firmware Umbrella to obtain your 4.0 SHSH and 4.0.1 SHSH so that you have them for the future. This is time sensitive - Apple will stop signing 4.0 very soon, so if you miss out on this, you will be locking yourself out of future jailbreaks.
The reason it's unsafe is that without the SHSH on file, if something bad happens during the process and you have to restore, you will need to restore a factory firmware -- and you cannot jailbreak the factory firmware at present, so if this doesn't all work 100%, you will end up with a jailed and locked iOS 4.0 device. So, know that going in.

Apple has stopped signing 4.0 on the iPhones (as 4.0.1 is now out for these devices)
See SHSH - The iPhone Wiki for details on whether a specific firmware is still being signed or if not, what date the signing was stopped.
