    Thumbs down Got a New iPhone today

    I am doing this for a friend who has T-Mobile also. I activated with the AT&T sim card and used blackra1n to unlock. Everytime I restart the iPhone it brings me back to "Connect to iTunes" image on the iPhone. And on iTunes it displays a message, " iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, you must restore this phone before it can be used with iTunes". Do I have to run blackra1n everytime when I turn off and on the iPhone? This is a brand new iPhone which I got today. Is there a solution to this?

    welcome to the few unlucky ones. i have one too that just bought last week.
    you iphone more likely have a new bootrom that prevent jb from apple. right now that is the only solution, running blackra1n every time you restart/reboot iphone to kick it out of recovery mode.

    Talking

    @holycowe - fourth & fifth digit: 41. I didn't know that was the week of production. Cool.

    @bmw
    1. Insert T-Mobile card into iPhone (or whatever carrier this phone will use)
    2. Plug iPhone into computer (close iTunes if it opens)
    3. Run blackra1n program

    That should be all; However, my experience is that the process does not always exit cleanly and I found my iPhone stuck in Recovery Mode (requesting to plug-in to iTunes for a Restore). I unplugged and repeated steps 2 and 3 from above once and when my iPhone rebooted it was activated and usable and then easily unlocked with blacksn0w from the blackra1n app installed on the iPhone (not the same blackra1n program on the computer, mentioned above).

    @kalali
    I don't believe its unlucky to have a tethered jailbreak for a little while. Sure, it would be nice not to have to plug the iPhone into my MacBook and run blackra1n for every reboot but I don't reboot the phone all that often. Unless I'm modifying system files on the iPhone or if one of my Apps starts crashing over and over I never reboot. (holding down the power button to power-cycle).

    Anyway... Just don't shut down the iPhone if you have a choice. Forget about the power button, even. Use the Home button instead. Oh, and don't let the battery die. Mine goes into the red just fine for a few minutes but I plug it in right away. Don't shut it down to conserve the battery.

    I have not tested it yet but I wonder if a tethered jailbreak (rebooting the iPhone while it's connected to a computer running blackra1n), does not affect the data and the Apps installed. Is it a non-destructive restore process? If so, I'll quit thinking about the tethered jailbreak altogether.

    suckaforapudding,

    Its not my iPhone so it really dont matter to me, I gave it to my friend and told him not to shut his iPhone off lol he looked me as if I was insane. I gave him the blackra1n.exe program incase he shuts his phone off so he can get out of recovery mode.
