Your serial number falls into a grey z
one. Could be old or new bootrom. You need to check via DFU mode.
Also if you have upgraded to iTunes 9.1 and are on windows blackra1n will not work.
I recommend you use redsn0w anyway.

So how does the old/new bootrom affect unlocking ? is it something to do with tethering ?
could you please explain a bit more the "itunes" part ? sorry im completely new to iphone world

See PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X for details on how to find your ECID and bootrom version, both useful pieces of info.
Yes the bootrom determines whether or not you have a tethered jailbreak.
Regarding iTunes (and also iPhone OS updates) the general advice is to not let them update automatically and check if Apple has changed anything that breaks jail-breaking.
Right now, Apple just released iTunes 9.1 which works with all jailbreak tools except blackra1n on windows.
If you are on windows and have the new bootrom this might be a good reason to stick with an older version of iTunes.
