Default Could it be serial related?

    Hello

I recently purchased a 3gs from ebay. still waiting for shipment

the basebade is 5.11.07 baseband and running 3.1.2.

I will need to unlock and JB , however I am afraid it gets stuck somehwere. i read so many posts about iphones getting stuck and giving errors , even the ones running the same version as mine. So i thought this could be serial number related. my iphones serial is **92842****

Please help and should i go ahead and unlock/jb ?

Your serial number falls into a grey z
one. Could be old or new bootrom. You need to check via DFU mode.

Also if you have upgraded to iTunes 9.1 and are on windows blackra1n will not work.

I recommend you use redsn0w anyway.

See PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X for details on how to find your ECID and bootrom version, both useful pieces of info.

Yes the bootrom determines whether or not you have a tethered jailbreak.

Regarding iTunes (and also iPhone OS updates) the general advice is to not let them update automatically and check if Apple has changed anything that breaks jail-breaking.

Right now, Apple just released iTunes 9.1 which works with all jailbreak tools except blackra1n on windows.

If you are on windows and have the new bootrom this might be a good reason to stick with an older version of iTunes.

Regardless, you should use redsn0w to jailbreak http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=7449
