Hello!

I got an iPhone 3G that is quite a mystery to me. It is brand new.

I don't know what the original provider is. I don't know the firmware or update info on it.
I can't find any of this because iTunes rejects me from opening it. It needs to be activated.

All I know is it is brand new, unactivated, still SIM locked, and Canadian.

I want to hacktivate it and unlock the SIM so it can be run with a Rogers SIM that was originally in a blackberry.


My computer is running Win7 64bit. I have iTunes 64bit, Pwnagetools (which doesnt work), redsn0w, and many other assorted programs meant to hacktivate and unlock the phone.

Unfortunately I've hit a wall, and I'm unable to check the software update, so I cannot effectively hacktivate it without pwnagetools.

I'm looking for some assistance, for everything I've tried up to this point hasn't worked.

The main problem here is getting my phone on the correct update. I'm unable to update using the ipsw file because iTunes rejects my phone, it still needs to be activated. Is there any way I can update using the ipsw without iTunes?

My knowledge of mac products is slim to none. I figured out the dfu, but now I need the firmware.
Any ideas? 4.0.1 did not work.

TinyUmbrella will tell you the current iOS version and baseband on the phone (even in the "slide for emergency" state it is in now)
Don't restore any IPSW until you have identified what is currently on the phone.

The iPhone is not a "mac product" per-se. I guess you meant to say "apple products", however you don't ever need to have used a mac to work out how to use iTunes and the iPhone.
