    Lightbulb blacksn0w *UNOFFICIAL* tutorial

Hi guys, after numerous amount of trial and error, I have finally got the iPhone 3G & 3GS in perfect working order. Newer iPhone 3GS will require you to run blackra1n.exe (RC3) to get out of recovery (DFU) mode each time you turn off or restart your iPhone.

    » You tube: Works

    » Internet Tethering: Works

    » Wifi: Works

First and foremost, you will need an AT&T sim card to activate (without this your Youtube.app will not work. If you can get one of your friends to lend it to you for 10mins that would be awesome. If that is not possible then you will be able to hacktivate and enable Youtube.app by following step number 13.

    1. Insert your AT&T Sim card in iPhone (Skip this step if you intend on using Cydia to hacktivate your iPhone)

    2. Restore your iPhone on itunes with firmware 3.1.2

    3. After restore is complete, iTunes will ask if you would like to update your carrier settings. Click Yes. (You will notice on your iPhone it will say "Waiting for Activation". During this wait, Connect to your Wifi Network and check to see your Youtube app works)

    4. While your iPhone is still connected to your computer, Download and open blackra1n.exe ( http://blackra1n.com/ ) and make it rain with your AT&T Sim Card still in the iPhone. (Your iPhone must be connected to your Wifi) Follow the process and once your iPhone restarts it will continue to say "Waiting for Activation, This make some time." Slide to Unlock then tap blackra1n app on your iPhone.

    5. Please tap only "snow" and click install. DO NOT install Cydia or Rock from the blackra1n app at this moment.

    6. If when installing "snow" freezes press the home button and reload
blackra1n app and try re-installing snow.

    7. Take out your AT&T Sim card and insert your own sim card.

    8. Go to Settings>Network>Cellular Data Network> Enter your APN. (Don't forget to turn off your 3G settings)

    9. Your iPhone should display "iPhone Activated" anytime now.

    10. Go to Settings> Turn Airplane Mode ON> Hold down Power Button and shutdown your iPhone, wait a 30 seconds or so then turn your iPhone back on.

    11. Go back to Settings> Turn Airplane Mode OFF. This should enable Wifi. (If your Wifi still does not work, either you can follow steps 10 & 11 until you get a Wifi connection or follow step 13 to fix Youtube and Wifi. There is a flaw with Wifi during boot up of the iPhone due to blackra1n unlock)

    12. Install Cydia from the blackra1n app on your iPhone at your own risk. (Complete upgrade Cydia as necessary)

    13. Wifi and Push Fix can be implemented within Cydia. Push, YouTube, & WiFi issues are caused by hacktivation. To fix this issue, add http://cydia.iphoneil.net/ as a source, return to Section and look for "iPhoneil Utilities", install "Push Fix & Youtube".

    INTERNET TETHERING:

I got tethering to work with benm.at mobileconfig file. I made a custom mobileconfig file from benm.at website through my iPhone Safari.

    help.BenM.at mobileconfigs » http://help.benm.at/tethering.php

    help.BenM.at custom mobileconfigs » http://help.benm.at/generator.php

Internet Tethering works flawlessly via Bluetooth and USB Cable

**Make sure you go in to Settings>General>Network>Internet Tethering and turn it ON**

    Setting up MMS for T-Mobile:

    Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network

    APN: wap.voicestream.com
    Username:
    Password:
    MMSC: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
    MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS UA Prof URL:

How to change your iPhone's Root Password:

If you plan to use Cydia or any other third party iPhone application it is highly recommended that you change your iPhone root password. Click the link below for an easy and quick tutorial.

    Thank you.

    congratulations

fwiw, the benm file kills visual voicemail, but if you delete the file you get visual voice mail back, and the tethering toggle still works.

how to remove the BenM profile:

    # Scroll General Settings: Scroll to the bottom of the General settings window to display the Profiles option
    # Open iPhone Profiles: Select the Profile option from the general settings that will open the iPhone Profiles configuration window
    # To remove the Visual Voicemail conflict remove the profile with BenM.att in the description field by clicking the red Remove button. Click the second Remove button to verify you want to remove the profile.

    visual voicemail works again

fwiw, the ipcc created by volkspost for ATTUsa is a better way to enable tethering than the benM mobile config.

Here are the links for that:
Install AT&T 6.5 ipcc by volkspost (file at MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service ,

and instructions to enable custom ipcc files in iTunes iClarified - iPhone - How to Enable Carrier Bundle Support in iTunes 8.2 (Mac)
jon_slider did volkspot ever create an ipcc file for non AT&T customers?

    iPhone 3.1.2 Tethering Tutorial

I suggest you confirm with appleguru if he is hosting ipcc files by volkspost, I think he is, but not sure, and if the non ATT one is for Tmobileusa

No, those are both mobileconfigs for at&t; don't use them with t-mobile.

    Volkspots ipcc is here: http://appleguru.org/ATT_all_on.ipcc

Thanks, then I suggest using BenM.at - Österreichs iPhone & iPod touch Blog custom mobileconfig file for tethering on non AT&T iPhones. Works excellent for me.

Please read this post here (post #25) by Volkspost
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/f203/93787-3.htm - that is for AT&T

If you need to use with different carrier then create your ipcc bundle by using the bundle generator here mentioned in this post #1 here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/78031.htm

I have spoken to Volkspost about mobileconfig vs. ipcc - This matter is dense. I suggest people read it and try to understand so you know what's best for you. Don't just blindly do stuff just because it worked for someone else.
The iPhone relies on the use of carrier bundles. In apples world each user uses one specific (the one for his contract). Once this user is in a roaming situation, the unknown bundle is used.

Remember thats why we told ppl back 1 1/2 year ago not to mess with this bundle, instead use custom made bundles if the user is not on a legit contract - like most of the hacktivated ones. When using a custom carrier bundle we are back in Apples world, using our bundle for regular use and the unknown when roaming.

    Similar situation now.
    1. Those not on a legit contract use the unknown bundle with their simcard, mobileconfigs are used like kind of a condom on top of this bundle - the unknown one.

    2. Those on a legit contract wanting to play with the APNs to avoid extra charges could do so, but: They dont have access to edit the settings for the mobile network unless the typemask is set to -2. Once this is done the functions of data, mms, vvm get messed up.

Only for users on a legit contract the use of a mobileconfig with correct apn settings is ok, if they can live without playing around with the settings. benm.at uses typemask -2 in all of his settings. This in most cases does screw up things on those legit users that have data, mms, vvm and want additional tethering.

Those users should always grab the original carrier bundle, set a higher version in Info.plist and the appropriate settings for the APNs in carrier.bundle and add AllowEDGEEditings set to true.

Users not on a legit contract should never use mobileconfigs even though they might work if the provider just has data (and tethering).

In all cases a custom bundle is the best solution. once AllowEDGEEDiting is added, you can set almost all mobile network values (exept for tethering specific) plus mms setting right on the iPhone.

Please tap only "snow" and click install. DO NOT install Cydia or Rock from the blackra1n app. I found that Cydia and Rock from the blackra1n app gave major issues with Wifi, Tethering and Cellular Data Network where as the APN would keep deleting.
If you don't install Cydia or Rock from the Blackra1n app, how do you install any JB apps? Wouldn't you need at least one of them?

Yes you would need Cydia or Rock to download JB apps, but you risk having to deal with your APN being deleted everytime.
