Default about to buy my iphone, want input on if i should jailbreak it...

everywhere i read there seems to just be countless amounts of horror stories from people jailbreaking the iphone 3gs. i will be buying one of these in a few days, and i am interested in jailbreaking it, but i want to know if it is wise to do.

guy i know @ att told me if i jailbreak it, the phone is worthless. even if i restore it. he said apple knows if the phone has been jailbroken and this voids my warranty ontop of other things. i am also going to get a 3rd party warranty service and i dont know if they care that the phone is jailbroken, i will find out soon...

anyways, is it worth it for me to do the hack on the phone or should i leave it as is? i do want to put some goodies on there i have already done for my friends itouch, but i just done see myself wasting $400+ on a phone, knowingly breaking the thing, and turning $400 into trash in 1 click.

so thats all i want to know. i dont plan on going to another phone carrier, im gunna sign up with att phone service, so what benefits do i get with a jail broken phone?

You can 100% undo the jailbreak. Put the 3GS in DFU mode, restore and set the phone up as new. Apple can't tell a thing about how it was configured before.

The current 3GS models are limited to a tethered jailbreak. This can be frustrating to some people as once jailbroken, each time you restart the phone you need to connect it to a computer to kickstart the boot process

If you haven't already done so and want to go ahead then you should do so now before FW3.14 is in the shops (and make sure the store does not upgrade the FW for you!)

I haven't met a single Apple employee who didn't have a JBed iPhone. True.

That said, I needed Apple support (in store, over the phone, and live chat) a couple weeks ago on a tricky problem. No one denied help and my 3GS was JBed. In the store, they could see from my home page icons it was JBed and didn't care. (I would have restored it to non-JB status before bringing it in, but couldn't because of the problem they were helping me with. I was happily surprised at their nonchalant attitude towards my JB.)
