You need to first jailbreak 3.0 with redsn0w, then restore your custom IPSW.
You need to do the restore from iTunes on your PC - not via your virtualized OS X.

1600 - Custom firmware can't be restored on a device with DFU Mode. The software of the iPhone isn't patched. Go into Recovery Mode (Pwnage Tool up to 4.0.1) or start Pwnage Tool and click "DFU" at the top and go with this tutorial into the DFU mode. During that process the software gets patched and the custom firmware should run without any problems.

I have jailbreak & Unlock the iPhone 3G for 4.2.1. but i have noted my baseband updated alos to 05.11.07? I have no idea what i have done wrong.

I have also other iPhone for my wife 3GS with 3.1.2 (Old bootroom) Baseband 05.11.07.
already jailbreaken & Unlocked using blackra1n.

I want to uprade to 4.2.1? is it possible what is the best solution?

I have created custom firmware 4.2.1 on OS X & when i tried to restore in PC in DFU mode I get 1600 error message.

when i tried to restore in PC in recoery mode i got 21 error message.

Please advice.

In step # 2: it says if i am not on 3.1.2 then i need to restore using iTune to 3.1.2.

I think this was my mistake I restore to 3.2.1 ( I thought RedSn0w 0.9.2 can work only with 3.1.2.

is there a big difference between Base band : 04.26.08 & 5.11.07 for 3G.

Yes you have answered your own question/problem.

the only advantage of 5.11.07 is that it includes some network and performance tweaks.

Ultrasn0w works on all basebands between 04.26.08 up to 5.13.xx baseband

You didn't need to update your baseband after all. However it really doesn't matter that you did
