    Default 3.1.2 Bootloop question

    Hi,

    Hopefully someone can help....

I have a 3GS iPhone 3.1.2, newer bootroom, jailbroken with Blackra1n. It's the model with the bootroom, where I have to rerun the jail break if it switches off. I have never upgraded the firmware.

I had a problem the other day, the phone spontaniously rebooted, and seems to be stuck in the boot loop. Blackra1n just hangs when the picture of the guy comes up.

So far I've tried the following:-

    1) Turning it off and on, holding home and power, then keeping home on for longer

    2) Tinyumbrella (seemed to hang)

    3) running iRecovery. It found the phone ok, but the commands didn't seem to do anything (setenv auto-boot true etc etc)

    4) Recboot (didn't work)

    5) Restoring via itunes, and selecting 3.1.2 as .ispw (after changing the line in the hosts file to redirect the check). Just a system error....

    So...... HELP!!

Is it possible to restore to 3.1.3, then run sn0wbreeze??

At the moment I feel like I'm running out of options, I haven't got any SHSH backups (unless they are done automatically). So I really need the help of someone who knows what they are doing. I'm quite IT savvy, but know nothing about iPhones.

If it helps I have access to either a mac or a PC (yes, I have tried all of the above on both platforms )

Thanks in advance, I really am in a rut!

    S.

Shsh backup is not done automatically. You have to opt in via Cydia

Now the only SHSH you can get is for 4.1. This means that 4.1 is the only ipsw you can restore to.

4.1 is not yet jailbroken and includes a baseband update that cannot yet be unlocked. So u really don't want to restore to 4.1

If you never installed cydia after jailbreak or if you did not launch cydia and select "make my life easier" then you did not opt-in and likely have no SHSH on file

Did you use blacksn0w for unlock?

Pwnagetool (and the unauthorised windows clone sn0wbreze) have never supported new bootrom 3GS

    Just to clarify.

There is the blackra1n jailbreak (which you needed to re-run each time you restarted the iPhone)
Then there is the blacksn0w unlock, which allows you to use SIM cards from other carriers in your phone. This is often installed from the blackra1n icon that the blackra1n jailbreak puts on your iPhone.

Blackra1n (jailbreak) and blacksn0w (unlock) are two very different things despite the similar sounding names.

You have clearly indicated you used blackra1n, what I want to find out is what caused the bootloop (and blacksn0w is one of the known causes of bootloops)

TBH it was a while back (just after the new bootrom release). The phone is unlocked and jailbroken. The process installed Cydia (it was a package of programs). I'm 80% sure it was both blacksn0w and blackra1n (it's a UK phone running in Russia on a Russian network). Apologies for being vague, but I am pretty certain blacksn0w was part of the process.....

Try RESOLUTION: Blacksn0w Reboot Loop / No WiFi Signal / Reset Network Settings / Unlock
Or.. http://www.hackint0sh.org/f220/124913.htm - keep in mind that the last ditch approach requires that you have a 3.1.3 SHSH saved (as Apple has long since stopped signing 3.1.3 SHSH)

My understanding is that the last ditch method does not work with iOS 4.0 or higher (apple changed the way the restore process works). I have not had this 100% confirmed though.

Also, the keep running blackra1n until the battery goes flat and the iPhone restarts has been successful for many.

I wonder if anyone can help? I can't seem to flatten the battery. I get as far as the tiny red line and the flash of lightning, but it doesn't seem to flatten fully to trigger the reboot which will hopefully break my bootloop. At this stage, iTunes doesn't recognise the phone at all (PC) and my mac only recognises the phone if I do a 'power & home' reboot.

Thus, running blackra1n constantly is a problem, as I need to manually intervene to reboot the phone (so iTunes and Blackra1n see it, and Blackra1n can hopefully flatten the battery some more...)

Is there a workaround for this, or is this stage of the process manual (I'm literally sitting by the mac rebooting the iphone by hand and triggering Blackra1n over and over and over again )?

EDIT: the iphone is now sometimes rebooting back to the 'connect to iTunes' screen, and not just to the low battery warning...weird... is it possible that it is receiving some charge (I'm on a MacPro, running OSX)?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I've searched the stickies etc, but can't seem to find guidance on how to get past this.

    Cheers,

    S.
