I have an iphone 3G 8GB which I managed to jailbreak with a custom .ipsw (but not unlock). Right now I'm on OS 3.1 with baseband 05.11.07 and able to use the ipod function without the phone (I have tmobile). I want to try blackra1n v3 and blacksn0w when it comes out but I'm not sure how exactly to do it. I do not want to be stuck with nothing. When I first restored to 3.1 from 3.0 the phone was stuck at the "plug" screen and said I had no carrier, so I could do nothing. I don't want that to happen again. I have heard that you first must upgrade to 3.1.2 (have downloaded the update) but if I do that and get stuck at the plug screen how will I run blackra1n? Or do I just run the blackra1n.exe and it will get me past the "plug" screen? I have read the tutorials and it is still not clear. I have read that it will not "hacktivate" which I guess means unlock. That is why I'm looking forward to blacksn0w.

...are you using blackra1n for windows or mac? i had an issue when using blackra1n on windows, when it says to change the setting in blackra1n to run as windows xp. i kept getting stuck at the itunes plug sign and blackra1n would get stuck, and when i try closing and running blackra1n again it just get stuck... so i didnt set it to run as windows xp and it worked fine!!!

Should have mentioned I am on windows XP. I am just nervous about getting stuck at that screen where you see the plug and never get to the home menu. This is what happened after I upgraded the OS, since I have no carrier and can't be activated through Apple. I am assuming once you execute blackra1n it will jailbreak it anyway.

You should restore (not update) to official 3.1.2 and then run blacksn0w RC3.

Blackra1n RC3 will get you past the "connect to iTunes" screen, this is hacktivation.

Do not confuse hacktivate with unlock, blackra1n RC3 will jailbreak and then hacktivate (hacktivation is new for RC3)

Once you are at the home screen, you will have no service. You should then run the Blackrain.app program and click on Blacksn0w within that to unlock.

Of course, none of this will work until both tools are released in about 6 hours.

tested it, its working, however youtube is not working !!!

Blackra1n did the jailbreak with no problem.
Blacksn0w unlocked with no problem.
Everything seems to working well!!!

The only problem I have is Itunes crashing once in a while, but that may be from uprading to the latest version.
