Do i need to upgrade to 3.1.2 or does blackra1n also work on 3.0.1 FW?

My iphone is bricked, stuck at apple logo.

If I jailbreak with blackra1n, will everything stay intact (contacts, apps etc)?

iPhone 3G, 3.0.1 FW, S/N xx911xxx, jailbroken, windows PC

BEST way is NOT to update to stock firmware 3.1.2.

You should be using a custom firmware 3.1.2 created by pwnagetool. Use the custom firmware to restore to your phone.

Put phone in RESTORE mode then restore via itunes by hitting shift-click restore and select custom firmware 3.1.2

- OR you can always restore to stock 3.0 and use redsn0w 0.9.2 to jailbreak your phone. Redsn0w is a much cleaner/better jailbreak than blackra1n.

By upgrade I meant restoring using an custom ipsw file, but dangerous choice of words lol. Thanks for clarifying that redsn0w is better. According to dev-team, the laster redsn0w is compatible with 3.1.3. Download both 3.1.3 and 3.1.2 ipsw, restore selecting 3.1.3 in itunes, jailbreak selecting 3.1.2 in redsn0w. Works because redsn0w doesnt see the difference.
