Default Stuck in DFU (no backlight!)

Hey! Huge fan of the dev team's work. I recently got a week 52 iPhone 3GS, OS 3.1.2 with baseband 05.11.01. Jailbreak and hacktivation took no more than 30 seconds with blackra1n rc3. Phone was unlocked, made a couple of calls, all fantastic. After a while I upgraded Cydia, worked fine still. Then I installed SBSettings (and it pulled libhide and Mobile Substrate) and when done installing Cydia asked for reboot. Upon reboot it entered recovery mode (iTunes icon and cable, expected for tethered JB) and I plugged it into my Mac and *made it rain* (this time blackrain rc1). geohot popped up, and stuck on screen for over 10 min while the spokes things went round and round in the bottom center of the screen.

Since this was clearly too long, I forced a shutdown with power+home keys and it went down in about a count of six. Now no matter what I do, what key combination I try, (home+power for 10 sec, then home only; for 20, 30, 40 sec, and all combinations thereof) the screen stays black. The silver apple logo does not come up no matter what. System profiler reports iPhone in DFU mode. THE BACKLIGHT IS OFF!. I've tried home+power combo, plugging USB cable in and out, but it just does not get out of DFU. Only iTunes 9.0.3 on Mac recognizes this device and asks me to restore.

Since I just bought this thing brand new, there's clearly no 3.1.2 SHSH on file for it (there is for 3.1.3 - thats the first thing I did in Cydia!). So an iTunes restore would mean 3.1.3 with baseband 05.12.01! blackra1n does not recognize the device when plugged in (wating for device...) and neither does iRecovery (got usb, no iphone/ipod found).

    Ideas?

No easy solution, blackra1n RC1 did not support tethered boot, so has screwed up NOR. When LLB in NOR is invalid, DFU mode (hardware) kicks in. There are no known exploits for DFU mode since 2G days, only an IPSW with valid SHSH can be restored. So... you have absolutely no option other than to restore to 3.1.3

Also, for your info. blackra1n is not made by the devteam, it is made by geohot. Blacra1n is still an okay tool, but redsn0w takes less shortcuts and performs a more full featured jailbreak. That is why we don't recommend blackra1n here.
