It is probably not a blackra1n/blacksn0w bug. I did not have wifi on prior to entering the boot loop and did not use blacksn0w as well because I don't have to unlock my carrier or tethering. I think it might be due to a Cydia bug. I saw 4 upgrade prompts relating to Cydia when I accessed it after the reinstall but I didn't dare to try.
This worked for me. I hope it works for others too!

didnt work . Then I used recommended solution here. Connected iphone to USB and ran blackra1n continuously. Within few hours it went in charge mode and then restart and then kept going on in loop fpr recharge and restart. Its now 48 hours but no luck for me blackra1n didnt kicked phone out of recovery.
Can someone suggest what else i can do? BTW I had installed SSH on my phone before it crashed.
Thanks a lot

Is there another way to delete com.bigboss.sbsettingsd.plist & com.saurik.Cydia.Startup.plist aside from iPhone Folders?

If the phone is getting to the point that it is mounting the filesystem and making it accessible over USB, you can use something like DiskAid or iFunBox to connect from a Windows machine.

I have a new iPhone 3GS (week 47) 16gb bught in January/10 with 3.1.2 installed, jailbraken with Blackra1n and unlocked with Ultrasn0w.
I've been locked in the restore loop for 3 weeks now after my phone restared due to a cydia app installed. Don't have the SHSH file stored so can't restore 3.1.2.
I've tried to reboot with blackra1n again yesterday for 10 straight hours, no success. Battery was already empty when I started (red battery on screen, charge and blackra1n starts). Blackra1n ran 14 time (msg boxes).
Tried iRecovery and tried to run RedSn0w, also no success.
Saw this post and tried to connect with iPhone folders, ifunbox and DiskAid - none recognizes my phone. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Nope. Unfortunately this resolution is iffy at best. It works for most people when they try enough times, but ultimately there is no guarantee for a fix that doesn't threaten your jailbreak or unlock...
(You can ALWAYS fix this, as far as I know, by shift-restoring a factory/legit 3.1.3 in DFU mode, but no one recommends it unless you're OK being off the jailbreak and unlock train until June/July, even if you have an SHSH, since your baseband will still be upgraded. That said, if the phone doesn't work now and you're tired of trying to fix it and can handle being jailed and locked until June/July, there are options.)

steps clarification, please!
My is a 3G running 3.12 with baseband 5.11. Happily jailbroken since Nov 09.
I have reinstalled blacksn0w recently as I travelled thinking that it may come in handy to unlock the phone. I unlocked the phone in the past with blacksnOw but had issues of network dropped, so I uninstalled through Rock.
This time around I unlock it through Cydia and most likely used the blancksn0w RC1. I was using the phone as a tethered modem through bluetooth, battery was running low to 20% and the phone freezed. Shut down and it went to the loop of the logo, reboot...
Can someone clarify the steps a bit:
Should both iTune and blackra1n be running the whole time while the phone is plugged in?
Should the phone be plugged in USB in recovery mode or the logo loop mode?
So far, I have seen the phone displaying the battery logo but then it will pop back to the logo loop. Have done this for about 24 hours now. I had Geohot screen came up once then the phone went back to the loop. If iTune should be running, should iTune display the phone? Blackra1n keeps showing "waiting for device", is this right? Btw, I have the latest iTune and so the Blackra1n is a special fix one for iTune 9.1 which I downloaded.
Any other suggestion?

The solution in this thread is mostly recommended for 3GS (new bootrom) iPhones.
3G owners and 3GS (old bootrom) have the ability to restore 3.1.2 and/or custom IPSW.

No support for any ih8sn0w software on this forum. Downgrade iTunes and use the legitmate version of blackra1n.
