Default Recovery mode loop - brand new 3gs :(

Brand new Iphone 3gs 16gb bought the other day (Sunday)

I put the ZAGG shield on it - let it dry - wake up and Jailbreak it (Heck yeah! did it on my ipod touch 2g and love it!)

Used Blackra1n right from their site, and it installed/applied flawlessly.
    Installed Cydia / ICEY

and from there installed my fav apps (Backgrounder, etc, etc) on a couple of the apps it required a reboot, which forced me to run blackra1n again since I supposedly have the new bootrom which requires a tethered jailbreak.

Three reboots later - blackra1n is not working. If I watch the screen I see the guy's face, and the ipod's floating across the screen, and when it should be rebooting to the lock screen, it goes dead (Just drops) and reboots to the apple logo screen, then asks to plugin to Itunes (if I try to use blackra1n again the same exact thing happens, over and over and over)

So I figure i'd restore from the 3.1.2 firmware I originally had on the thing. I get error 9 in itunes (which from my reading sounds HORRIBLE!)

Tried in both DFU mode, and regular restore mode about 50x now (Hearing from one person on the 30th try it worked for him?)

So I try a new cable, new computer, new operating system, same error 9

I've downloaded iRecovery and i've tried every command I could find (auto-boot enabled)

Can anyone help me? This is my second Iphone within one week (the first one had a faulty home button) and i'd HATE to go back and ask for another one (especially since it's been jail'broken')

    This is my Irecovery output

    Got USB

ANY help would be extremely appreciated.

If I get this thing working - I'm keeping it unJBd!

Are you sure you got into DFU mode?

You must have iTunes open/running while you put the iPhone into DFU mode.

Perty sure - hold down power+home for 10 seconds (or until I hear my computer make the USB disconnect noise) then just home for 5 seconds (or until I hear the computer make a USB connect noise)

at that point (with the iphone connected to itunes) itunes comes up saying it's in recovery mode.

    Default Recovery mode loop

    anzo007,

I am having the same problem, iphone 3gs 16gb, fw 3.1.2, used balckra1n (no unlock), tried to recover via itunes, and when it is about to start revocering i get the error (9) message. So far I looked at a lot of blogs and tried a lot of things but nothing worked. If I come up with a solution I'll let you know. If you find it first, please let me know.

Have you tried everything in this troubleshooting document?
Update and restore alert messages on iPhone and iPod touch

Based on other reports, I suspect some error #9 may be hardware related, but error 9 is listed as one of the error numbers that can be solved by that document.
