Jailbreak and Unlock iphone 3gs 3.1

Hello friends,

I have brand new out of box iphone 3gs which comes with version 3.1 (7c144) and modem firmware 05.11.07

Is it possible to jailbreak and unlock this.? If so kindly advise how?

Generally, yes but if it is really brand new you may have what is called a tethered jailbreak. If the 4th and 5th digit of your serial number are higher than 40 you have only the option of a tethered jailbreak. If it is lower than 40 you can use pwnagetool 3.1.4 or blackra1n to jailbreak and blacksn0w to unlock.

If it is higher than 40, you must use blackra1n to jailbreak each boot and use blacksn0w to unlock.

Here is the steps to jail break the iphone
Step 1: Download the jailbreak program of your choice to your computer.
Step 2: Connect your phone to your computer and turn it off.
Step 3: Run the jailbreak program, carefully following its instructions.
Step 4: Choose your phone`s IPSW file for its firmware.
Step 5: Select what you want to do with your phone among the firmware`s options such as installing Cydia or installing an iPad baseband for unlocking. Step 6: Place your phone on DFU mode by pressing and releasing the Home and Power buttons. The program will tell you exactly how to do it. and to unlock the iphone you can go for remote unlocking method..you can try */EDITED/* to get it done with remote unlocking method..
