> Blackra1n can jailbreak (well) and hacktivate (buggily)
the false reputation that DevTeam is foisting on blackra1n is that its hacktivation breaks youtube and wifi
DevTeam has released a push fix that enables youtube on hacktivated iphones, (but dont use pushfix on legitit activated iPhones, as it disables your wifi, and bluetooth and simlock)
Regarding the supposed wifi bug in blackra1n, its not caused by blackra1n, its caused by FW 3.1.x.
geohot has twittered a link to apple site, showing many many 3.1.x legitimate users are having the wifi problem
Apple - Support - Discussions - No Wifi after iPhone 3.1 upgrade ...
I don't deny that many 3.1.x users had wifi problems, hey there were even plenty of reports of wifi problems on 3.0. It's affecting users who never jailbroke so it's definitely not blackra1n that caused it.

The dev team has released the occasional buggy software (first redsn0w to jailbreak 3.0 had buggy hacktivation for example) these are always promptly fixed.
Regarding push notifications. Just to clarify, the "manual fix" for push notifications was released by the dev team. If you followed the clear and straightforward read-me properly it works. By design this is NOT required for users who can properly activate.
What gave push fix a bad reputation was that later this pushfix tool was republished as a one-click solution on an unofficial cydia repository pre-packaged with certificates. Also numerous tutorials explained how to either use the cydia version or the manual version but provided a link to the same certificates that every other person installing pushfix was using.
This was never going to work properly because these certificates need to be unique and of course it caused problems. The package can no longer be installed via Cydia.
Back to blackra1n. Long term PwnageTool offers a safe way to move to newer iPhone OS releases. Once pwned, forever pwned (if you follow safe upgrade practices)
Blackra1n does not encourage safe upgrade practices because the recommended starting point is a freshly restored official apple OS 3.1.2, especially when blackra1n was originally released, there was no blacksn0w and no guarantee of ever seeing an unlock for 05.11.07 baseband. This was a recipe for disaster in the hands of inexperienced iPhone users seeking an unlock/jailbreak on windows. Thankfully blacksn0w exists now and seems to be quite stable. I still think it is wiser/safer to stay on ultrasn0w if it works for you. Blacksn0w then becomes a safety net for many users.

blackra1n is not an unlock. You need to use blacksn0w for your unlock. Using blacksn0w comes with a 20% chance of permanently losing your wifi. Just so you are warned.
