Blackra1n battery drainage!!

So I have and Iphone 3g firmware 3.1.2 baseband 5.11.07... It had been running perfectly for a week or so after patching it to skip the error #23... continued to jailbreak with Blackra1n (RC3) and unlock with Snow.... Up to this point everything was running great...

My problem arose after finding my battery drained this morning as I left the phone unplugged... I left it to charge for some two hours though the battery seemed to remain at 1% with a small slidder of red showing (and below it a charge icon alone switching to a 'plug + charge' icon from time to time).... So I then tried connecting it to the mac to charge and that resulted in the same problem... Furthermore, itunes doesn't recognized the iphone either so I can't restore/update etc... i tried running blackrain again to get it to boot though it stays on "Waiting for Device"... I tried holding the power + home button then opening itunes while holding home button didn't work.. also tried restarting the mac to see if it reads it at start up and didn't work... I thought the booting w/ blackra1n would have solved it but sadly no... I have most of my apps /info backed up including the cydia ones so i wouldn't mind even getting it to recover completely etc.. i just need it to charge an start up- I'm out of ideas- any leads? "For those with a new iPhone 3GS (updated Bootrom), BlackRa1n only supports a tethered jailbreak. This means that once jailbroken you should not let your battery die. If it does die you will need to reconnect it to the computer and use BlackRa1n to boot it." But I have a 3G not 3GS and again after trying to boot it blackra1n stays on waiting for device :/

You have a different problem. If you had read the rest of the thread you would see that blackra1n by itself can't cause battery drain. Your problem is likely hardware related

Hey I didn't say that blackra1n was the cause of the battery draining... my battery just ran out because i didn't charge it ( throughout the week i kept some charge on the phone and it worked fine, this time i am trying to charge from 0%)).. So my problem is now charging the phone and getting it to start.. It doesn't seem to take charge as it stays in the 1% red slidder... and is unresponsive to power+home and/or connecting to itunes ...

How long have you left it for? there will be a period when it will refuse to startup, then once the battery has started to take some charge it should start automatically. If you have a tethered jailbreak then it should switch to the "connect to iTunes" screen. Otherwise it should show the apple logo and start to boot.

The bundled charger seems to output a more guaranteed current than a USB port, so if you are having charging problems try a charger or use a pwoered usb hub.

So I left it to charge overnight to a wall charger after reading your post...and the phone still shows the 1% charge (just a tad of red on the battery)... :/ So it seems as if its not charging at all as it looks as nothing has changed... I think it all has to do with the fact that my battery ran out... and as you said - since it is a tethered jailbreak it should show the "connect to itunes" screen but doesn't or any other screen for that matter except the one of 1% charge..

So more or less it was expected to happen the phone to not take charge- but apparently its also expected that the phone should boot w/ blackra1n... The only difference here is that this quote is for Iphone 3GS and I have an Iphone 3G - so there must surely be a solution to boot it back somehow- thanks again

3G does not have a tethered jailbreak at all.

Check the dock connector, try a different cable.

it's not working :/ - the usb cables i have both charge and sync the ipod touch but not my iphone... i found this site that talks about the issue and some solutions closest to what my problem is.. and they suggest restarting the computer and that doesn't work <http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/iphone/iphone-wont-charge-or-turn-on-18460.html>... I don't understand what the problem is because it was working perfectly and then just the battery ran out and has stayed on the 1%..

Sounds very much like a hardware problem with the iPhone then. Is it still under warranty?

sadly no... that's why i had gone ahead to try and fix the error 23 n jailbreaking

So I bought a brand new battery replaced it and the phone came back to life!:)
However... I left it charging through the night and in the morning i noticed the battery had depleted.. and I am again back with the same problem... I really do not want to continue buying new batteries and replacing over and over... any ideas?? thanks for the help!
