However... I left it charging through the night and in the morning i noticed the battery had depleted.. and I am again back with the same problem... I really do not want to continue buying new batteries and replacing over and over... any ideas?? thanks for the help!
Could possibly be a bad charger or charging circuit on the phone if you're killing new batteries overnight. If you've got the tools, check the output voltage to the battery from the charge circuit on this phone vs. a known working good one to ensure that the charger you're using isn't dying a slow and painful death and taking out your batteries with it. Or, check the voltage and amperage coming out of the charger when charging if you've got the tools for that.

    Hi guys,

I seem to be suffering from the same issues as well.

I am using the 1st batch of 3GS, and rained it with RC1. Battery life was great, until I decided to re-rain it with RC3 last month.

From then, battery life was superbly bad.

The procedures I took was to set up the phone as a new iPhone. Activation-wise, I am not entirely sure, since I am on a supported network. Therefore, I did not know whether my 3GS was hacktivated or activated.
What I did was to restore to 3.1.2, shut down all iTunes background processes and rained it with RC3.

So what should I do now (or what should I avoid) to get better battery life?

Did you let the phone activate with iTunes before you ran blackra1n RC3 and jailbroke?

If that is not what you did, you can remove the blackra1n hacktivation support and try to re-trigger legitimate activation.

Download 3.1.2 ipsw direct from Apple and shift-click restore (on mac it is option-click) this will give you the option to browse for the ipsw to restore.
