Exclamation ASOD after Cydia upgrade of 12 packages

While updating Cydia; Cydia showed some 12 apps those need to be updated and so I did. I beleave all apps updated at the same time and it asked me to reboot and when I tried to reboot it DOES NOT REBOOT, instead only apple logo comes and shuts down within few seconds. This is an iPhone 3GS 32GB, OS Ver 3.1 (7C144), Modem Firmware: 05.11.07 - it was jailbroken and unlocked with blackra1n successfully months ago and worked fine until yesterday... Please advise and help... What need to be done next to fix this problem ??? Thanks and best regards.

Does this iphone have an old bootrom or new bootrom. This is very very important. I don't understand why people asked questions and leave out such important information.

If it is old bootrom then create custom fw 3.1.2 with pwnagetool, answer yes phone has been pwned at the end. Put phone in restore mode and restore with custom ipsw.

If it is new bootrom then follow instruction in post #1

Thank you very very much for your kind reply..!

To find the boot rom version, I referred my iPhone's serial number which is: 88923GMxxxx, and I understand that the fourth and fifth digit shows the week which is "23" in my case (I read that <40 is better, is it true?). The model: MC138LL.

I also tried to restore with "3.1.0 (3GS): iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw" (iClarified link: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....4_Restore.ipsw ) by using iTunes custom restore (left shift key+left mouse key), it says it is not authorized and hence I could not continue. Do you want me to try with pwnagetool instead? and if so, kindly let me know the procedure "how to restore with custom ipsw on a PC (Vista)". Thanks and best regards.

That looks like an old bootrom - which is good.

You can only restore custom ipsw (these are made with PwnageTool) on an old bootrom 3GS.

Official ipsw (like the one you linked to) can't be restored on any 3GS unless you have saved the SHSH for that specific OS version.

So answer is you need to use pwnagetool. Refer to this guide. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5432
